Electronics engineer here.  I know at least four other engineers that ice fish.  And yes, I do get some weird looks when I tell folks that I fish and even stranger looks when I tell them I ice fish.
Everyone has to believe in something.  I believe I'll go fishing.

Interesting reading this, regrading the teachers. When I recall the teachers I learned the most from, the top four all fished, hard and soft water. One each, science and math, two history. All were advocates of challenging conventional wisdom. Is there a connection here?

I'm a mortgage broker and I ice fish 2 to 3 days a week, 2 days more than summer. Our business is mainly customers fron N.Y.C. buying vacation homes around our lakes.  You should see their eyes when I tell them I ice fish all winter. I must have 2 heads LOL     I did however have a client call me a couple weeks ago to see if he could tag along.  Worked out GREAT.  I now have another lake front access to use. ;)

Any of those clients need an engineer?  Always looking for other access points, and don't have to many in Wayne county.  :)

Longwooddrive...I know a Newfie who lives in Prince Albert, SK that doesn't think much of your profession...has something to do with not being able to make a living fishing on the Rock any more.  BTW, he's with the feds as well, of course, he blames "biologists from Ottawa who've never put on a pair of rubber boots in their lives".   ;D

I've got far too many years of training in electrical engineering (did a non-thesis master's degree in wireless communications) as well as computer science.  I now work for the federal government (using the word work loosely of course) in IT...there's 3 in our unit who ice fish...add a couple more who get out open water.

God grant me the Serenity to accept the size of the fish I catch,
the Courage not to fib about it,
and the Wisdom to know that no one would believe me anyway.

Mechanical Engineer and I fish and hunt more than the redneck guys that I grew up with. They are still trying to figure out how to get gas money from their mothers.
If fishing was work I'd never be sick!
