When I first moved to Wyoming from Kansas in '89 I kept the flasher off one of my bass boats (sold the LCD's). Found an ice fishing kit for it somewhere. The flasher is housed on a plastic case which holds the two lantern batteries it runs on. The transducer is mounted off to the side on a swivel mount with roughly 12" of steel rod with a level bubble on the top of the transucer. It still works great, but I will probably upgrade to a Vex for next season.

Anyone using one of these antiques still? I'd like to find a source to hang the transducer much like the Vex does. The cable mounts into the side of it, maybe one of those pool 'noodles' split might work. Suggestions?

I think a pool noodle would work fine, but would the transducer hang level? That could be a problem.
It seems to go from zero to hero all some have to do is lie.

My neighbor still uses a bird 60. I'm still using my Hondex fl-8 which has been in use for 19 years now. I bought it strictly for icefishing.
Why does the transducer have to float?
I use a radio antenna that can teliscope down to the water or way under water. On the top of the transducer is a bubble level the same exact diameter of the ducer. Works excellent. Also i can ''spy'' on my buddy or anyone thats is close to me by angling the ant. mount to the side. OR, I can readmake my 10degree cone read around 45 degrees.

I took and old aluminum arrow and stuck it through a piece of pool noodle, used electrical tape to tape the transducer to the arrow for my Eagle Silent 60. Worked fine and I use it as my backup since I bought a Vexilar.

Pool noodles work great. As for hanging level, no problem. Gravity does all the work to level it for you.

Thanks for the pic roygpa! Think I'll be "upgrading" my own antique 60. Now all I need to do is hit Wally World for the noodle! Heaven knows they'll have their Summer gear out already since it's already February!  ;D Good fishin' to ya!

I think he is talking about a puck transducer from the back of a boat which will not hang level from a float without a counterbalance. That is why they mount them on some kind of an arm with a refridgerator  level on the top of the puck for leveling it.   ;)
