Family Trip To NY, Any Idea's
« on: Feb 11, 2007, 07:33 AM »
Looking to take a trip from Maine to NY next weekend and looking for some recommendations on where to go.  Family trip (3 kids from 4 yrs to 10 yrs).
Thinking southern Adirondacks but it has been many years since I have been
there...would need cottage/cabins to sleep 7 - 8 people do not all have to be
in same cottage and would be nice if dogs are allowed (crated if left alone).

Please include type of fish caught in body of water recommending and current ice and snow conditions ?

Thanks!!

Port Henery on lake Champlain is a great place to take kids. You can park on the beach and it's a short walk to fish .There are motels there and they do rent shanty's.If you are fishing the bay Perch and Smelt are easy to catch but there are Northerns ,Pickeral,Bass, Crappies,Lakers, and SAlmon around. It's a little furthure north but worth it .If your interested PM me for details.Lake George is also a great spot and is a little closer

There is good access to Indian on the southern end off rt. 30.  It is hit or miss there, and can be very slow, but the smelt are always there and can keep the kids (and adults for that matter)  busy!!  I have seen a few decent lakers and browns come from that area too.
Good luck!!
have a CRAPPIE day!!

Check out the Speculator, NY area - close to Indian, Lewey and Pleasant Lakes (potentially decent fishing), plenty of hiking, a couple shops and restaurants, and a ski hill (Oak Mtn?).  Plus you're relatively close to Utica, Turning Stone (casino), Syracuse, and lots of other Adirondack treats nearby.  Not sure on lodging, do a search on their chamber of commerce on-line.
