Micklesons Landing before the warm up?
« on: Dec 24, 2006, 10:58 PM »
I was just curious if anyone was able to fish Micklesons Landing, or Mallard Bay before the ice melted? Besides the usual Bluegills, anyone have any luck with Yellow Perch? We used the hammer the Yellow Perch on the south end of Micklesons around Duck hunting season.

Jepik,
Thanks for the reply. I try to make back home every year for a week of hardwater fishing. When I lived in the area I always seemed to have caught bigger fish from the ramp south. I you happen to fish Micklesons, try at the bottom of the ramp where the gravel meets the mud. Not only a transition area but prop wash some years creates a couple nice holes for the gills to hang in.

Mickleson's is on hyw.84 north of  Fulton IL. halfway to Thomson IL. Turn towards the river At the Lock & Dam 13 road (Shaeffers Fish market,  Drive about 1 block turn right for about 1/2 mile turn left. I believe there's a sign saying Micklesons Landing, but don't hold me to it. If you get up there let us know about the ice conditions.

I probably will not get up there before you have info regarding conditions.  I am from the Quad Cities and was just curious as to where it was.  I have gone up by Albany on a backwater and was unsure if that was where Mickelson's was by.  Do you know if there is any ice near their yet.  i know these are usually 1st to freeze.  Hope to be out somewhere on the ice soon with this great cold front we have.
