Depends on how cold it gets tonight. The snow on top will insulate the ice some assuming it hasn't weighed down the ice and created water on top. If there is water/slush on top, maybe it will freeze up over night. Otherwise I would wait until later this week when the temps are going to drop into the teens at night. Hopefully that will firm things back up!

Fished round lake again today 3+ of ice. People said best ice of all the lakes they have been on. Bite was slow today, but fish caught were nice. The ice will be good tommrow there. I am talking about round lake north of Col. City.

I was out on a private lake about 30 acres in Auburn this morning through the afternoon, there was about 2.5 -3 inches of ice, with an inch or so of snow on top.  Ice was still smooth, where we were fishing at first got kind of slushy, but by the time we left it was already freezing back up.  The temps aren't that extreme, maybe a few degrees above freezing for a few hours, with the lows still below freezing, I don't see the ice going anywhere anytime soon.

All the ponds I checked around Monticello are slush.  Sure would like to get out but I also hate swimming this time of year.

Shriner was 95% closed last thursday and 95% open on friday. It might be 30% closed now. I don't think it will be ready till the middle of next week  if we get the cold weather they say  at the end of the week. I can't wait tto get on it myself. Round lake was about 60% closed today.

Wrightap, if you don't mind driving a little bit, Willow Slough F & W area had 3 inches of ice on it Sunday, and the gills were biting. I'm guessing maybe a 30-45 minute drive for you? I'm planning on heading back up there Thursday afternoon. Goodluck!

What kind of shape is Round's ice in.......say, half way across it and half way from one end to the other? Or, pretty much dead smack in the middle in other words?

I checked my biggest pond today next to the pier. 1 3/4 inches. In about 15 minutes water had gushed out in a circle at least 2 feet around the hole without any weight on the ice. Not thick enough for me, and I need a few more days since I just recovered from walking pneumonia. We didn't get much snow up here in Ligonier so no worries there.  Kinda of hoped for more snow actually to keep the temps down.

What really p***** me off is we are getting cloudy nights which isn't allowing much radiational cooling!  >:( >:( >:(  We need a few days of at least single digits at night!  This chicken **** needs a minimum of 3 inches preferably 4!
I live in the midwest now but have fond memories of fishing in New England as a kid.

We had 2' halos around  each hole on sun. Once it all equalized the ice was .5 higher than the water.  hope that area will refreeze tonight so i can get back on.

A Bomb,  We fished the same channels tonight that we fished Sunday.  The ice looked bad....wet & slushy.  We got out the spud bar and it was still 3 inches.  We left at 7pm and ice was tightening up!    :)   Bret

You want to fish the south side of round. The middle of the lake is open. Some of the guys today worked down towards the girl scout camp, don't know how they did, but they didn't stay down there long. Ilike to fish right out the channel at the boat ramp. You have to park at Lions club to get on,channel not safe yet.
