I just bought a roll of fireline mico ice, seems like pretty good stuff and strong as hell

That is what I use also. I was initially concerned about walleye not biting because they could see the line. That hasn't been a problem...

I am constantly experimenting. I use 10lb power pro as backing on all my ice reels. Then I put a "top shot" or long leader of line on top. This season I have gone with a leader about as long as the depth I plan to fish. Seems to work well. I join lines with a uni to uni knot tied correctly with a tiny drop of uv curing glue.
I have been testing Berkley fireline ice braid in 2 and 3lb. test. It seems to be ideal and heads and shoulders above everything else with one big drawback. It ices up when it is really cold, collects beads of frozen water and drives me nuts! How cold is really cold...I'm still checking. When it is 20 and I'm working a micro jig on a micro rod nothing can touch it. If it's zero and I'm fishing a maggot 30 feet deep it can piss you off.
I fished the micro ice mono seems like good old trilene xl to me. Sten is good still.
I used some suffix elite mono this summer...best mono I ever used so far. I want to try the suffix ice mono next.
That said I like the power pro backing and leader setup. Braid lasts forever as backing...really...and fishing a 50 foot leader means I can buy a small spool of the most expensive line and have it last seasons.

Used 4# Cajun Red for the first time yesterday. Good feel and it really stays straight using tiny jigs (Five Stars). Good visability on the ice. Only problem I had is the wind takes it pretty good when letting out line making it hard to reel up slack with a spinning reel without it wrapping up behind the bail. It'll work great once I get a shelter.

Been using the P-line floro for a couple years and really like it. I bought a spool of the Berkley Vanish this year and tried it for the first time today with positive results but, still too early to tell for the whole season. I use 4# for perch, pike I use braided on tip-ups usually 30# with a steel leader. Been at this game a while and that's what's working for me anyway.
