There is no state hatchery in Saratoga Cty,and all the stocking  is done by the state in public waters...as far as I know.

That is not what i heard from the park office itself. If you look closely at the DEC stocking it doesn't include Moreau. When I asked about who does the stocking the park official referred to the county.  I am guessing that the county  pays for maybe it hires a private fish hatchery ??? Not sure

Most likely the fish come from the Warrensburg hatchery which is owned by Warren County.
There are many bodies of water stocked by county hatcheries under the supervision of the state.

Unless something has changed Warren County is not stocking Moreau.  :-\ I actually visited the Warren County hatchery in the early spring of 06. I had a long conversation with the people who were operating it on that day. They claimed that they don't stock that lake.  ???

I do know that a buddy at work gets some nice little rainbows on the 1st ice and again in the spring when the campsites open back up.  ;) It sounds wierd for a DEC campsite to use an outside stocker.  ??? don't know, but they are in there.  ;D

New York State stocks Moreau lake. and they do it with some pretty healthy fish. Mostly Rainbows. the fish come from Confields hatchery and another hatchery out near Utica.  ;D

Thanks eyehunter. I have been fishing Moreau pretty  regular for  the past year. Not sure what they feed them in the hatchery but these rainbows are not skinny ;) I have talked to guys coming off the lake on many occasions and the consenses is that the average size bow is healthy, plump 16 inch's :flex: All in all there is a very nice population of healthy rainbows. Tight lines :)

Camo, jflood,  A lot of the fish that are put in right from the hatchery are running between 16 and 18 inches. so they have a pretty good start and the survival rate of the stocked fish is really pretty good. See you guys on the ice soon I hope.  ;D

Hey Guys, not that I am looking to stir the pot but I actually follow on eyehunters post.I googled Confield and didn't come up with anything right away. What I did notice was hatchery on RT 9 in Ganesvort right around the corner  from Moreau St Park called Fernwood. I called an left a message to see if they actually stock my favorite state park ;) The answer was left on my voicemail and it was yes. Now my next question is do they stock it exclusively. :-\ Eitherway this hatchery is right on RT9 is so close to the park which corresponds to the comments I have heard in the past from the park officers.
