Jacksmelt71: I will attempt to keep this simple, first, ATV's in this state require both registration and insurance if operated off a person's property. If your state requires both registration and insurance and you have same then you are good to go in New York. If you don't have either then you would have to contact Dept. of Motor Vehicles (NYS) to find out what your next step would be. If you own a ATV now and don't have both registration and insurance just bring up a ride lawn mower and use that instead of the ATV,  no regulations on lawn mowers!!!! Contact me for more information.

Jacksmelt71: Insurance is required, also the answer on snow, depends on the wind off Lake Erie, you would have to contact someone just before coming to the lake.

Generally the Conesus area does not get THAT much snow, at least as compared to the far western regions of the state.  I have been there a couple times where the snow is deep, but more times than not it is not more than a couple inches.  But as you know, that can all change from day to day.  LOL!!

I plan on being there with either a sled or 4x4 and a dogsled. I'd be more than happy to lend a hand getting guys and gear out and back. I'm sure other locals will be willing as well. One thing you might want to bring is your helmets. Anyone riding on a trailer or riding 2 up must have a helmet. That way if I or any other driver doesn't have extra helmets, your party can get out without challenging the system.

I believe if you go to the DMV website in NY , it states that every dirtbike , atv etc.., no matter if it's on private property , yours---whatever, the state still recquires you to register them , homeowners insurance will cover the rest , but as you know that law is never policed . Registration & Insurance is definately required if you want to use it for Icefishing , and don't get caught without a helmet , big fine also . ;D
