This New Hampshire guy is headed a little bit east this weekend to visit some friends and get some time out on the ice. I'm staying at a place on the water in Bridgton.

Does some nice Mainer have a link to a round up of ice fishing laws/regulations? I just want to make sure I'm following your rules and doing it right!

Another favor to ask, is there a local bait shop in the area that you like?

Definitely looking forward to this little trip. Any and all help is much appreciated, thank you!

  • A bad day fishing is better than any day at work!
Never been there, so can't help with bait. Here are the laws from the Book:

LONG LAKE, Bridgton, Harrison, Naples (South Zone). General fishing laws apply, except: From October 1 - December 31: ALO (Artificial lures only), S-7 (All trout, landlocked salmon, and togue caught must be released alive at once).

Thanks for that, I'm not going to keep any fish, strictly catch and release. Just want to get an idea of how many lines I can set, hook type vs. bait, things like that. Thanks again.

Hi Crashed - I fish Long Lake almost every weekend but in the middle of the lake in Harrison, never fished the Bridgeton end through the ice so can't help with spots much. As far as bait shops go the closest to you will probably be Uncle Lunkers ( 6 Gage St, Bridgton ). Older gentleman who owns it is extremely friendly and store has everything you could need or want for tackle and bait, only downside is the close 7ish on Friday and doesn't open till 8:00am on Saturday. Don't know how you're coming in but I always stop at Naples Bait and Tackle ( 8 Harrison Rd, Naples ) because it's 24 hours self-serve bait so I grab them the night before. Its cash only and has a few different-sized shinners and suckers so it's great. Regs wise it's 5 lines between tip-ups and jigs per person. Any other questions happy to try to answer!
(Btw if have the time and want to get out when the bite slows down try Fluvial Brewing in Harrison, it's top teir)
