I actually had a dream about this the other night.  I drove past a place that was selling a ton of tackle, and gave the guy money to hold it for me, so I could go get more cash.  I came back, paid for all of it, then I woke up.  No idea what I bought!  ???

Post some pics, I love garage sales. I know this sounds morbid, but the best sales/ auctions to go to for fishing stuff is when some old feller passes on, or when someone gets a divorce.

or when someone gets a divorce.

ecspecially when the wife hates the man and the divorce is over his outdoor passions and how much time he spends from home, she will sell great stuff dirt cheap just to piss him off more, cha-ching for us other fishermen, plus it keeps our wives happy because we arent spending that much by going to garage sales and we are hanging out with themat the garage sales, so heres a toast to all the divorced fishermen who lost all to a sale  i went through it once :'(

I used to do roll off Dumpsters, and some of the things I would find in the boxes were amazing! When the ex- old lady gets rid of her asstranged husbands "crap", the garbage man does some dumpster diving. I have found a one man clam fishhouse, at least 10 augers, rods, reels, chainsaws, generators, custom pickup rims, taxidermy, and even a compound bow. You feel sorry for the poor sucker, but I sure ain't gonna dump the stuff in the landfill!

We just had a garage sale this past weekend. The neighborhood kid who bought my used tip-ups last year told me he caught the second place fish on them during the ice tournament. He knocked me down to third place!!!  >:( Oh well I am glad he is hooked on ice fishing and is getting as much enjoyment out of using them as I did.

Not to rain on your parade, but my uncle picked up one of those.  If there is more than 2" of snow, it pulls like a BEAST.

That's a heck of a deal Blindsquirrel. All fish trap style shelters do get harder to pull in snow over a few inches, but you can make some cheap and easy conduit or metal rod runners that lift the bottom of the shelter out of the snow and make it much easier to pull.  I'd be tickled pink if I could find a deal like that. Good find, BlindSquirrel!

Ifsh traps are hard to pull in the snow?? Come on are you kidding?  thats why i bought my first fish trap because of how light it was and how easy it as to pull in the snow with all my gear in it.  Must be a lot weak guys out there if they can't handle pulling a fish trap. I will give those guys a benefit of the doubt, i owned a scout and now a pro and both of these are simple to pull in the snow, my cousin owns a guide and that to is easy to pull in the snow.  Anything larger than the guide well i have no experience with them but they are huge so who ever buys them should realize they are going to be harder to pull.
All I need is ice and the fish will come.

I did alright on a garage sale this last summer.  Got 5 of those "fish reelz" poles where the line runs inside the pole itself.  I think they'll be great on some of our shallow ponds around here.  maybe wont spend time reelin up, they are fairly long so I can just lift and take the fish off, bait and get back down .  Also there were two 5 gal. buckets, 2 ice scoops, 2pairs of stabilicers, 2 bait bucket nets, neoprene gloves, 4-5 pairs of those metal ice spikes to strap on your boots, and 4-5 other misc poles.    Price tag = $25.00 ;D

Fishing should be the exercise of your skills- and its rewards the places it brings you to

went to 1 a few years back. the old gents bil had died and he had no use for the ice gear. i got a brand new ice tent[ still in the box], 3 antique homemade poles, about 200 asst. jigheads, a new chisel and some other useable gear. i asked him the price and he said 65.00. then he said is that to much? the stuff was at least worth 300$ so i gave him 100.oo and he said o no heres your change. i said your sure and he said yes. i said thank you and left feeling a little bad until just before i left his sister said that she was gonna throw it to the curb lol.

a guy that i work with hit 1 sale a few years back. the lady had all this tackle for sale. frank asked her what she wanted for it all and she replied 20.00 $. he loaded it on to his truck ist, paid the lady and as he was leaving another truck pulled in. the guy and the lady were having a heated decusion about fishing tackle. it seems that they were recently separated and she was having the sale just to get rid of all his precious stuff out of spite. how much tackle you ask? 4 brand new rod and reels, 4 tackle boxes full of crankbaits most still in the boxes, and a new portable fishfinder!!!!!!!!!!! the moral of the story, never underestimate a womans scorn.

Believe it or not my wife gets most of the fishing stuff at garage sales. She's able to go on Thurs or Fri before the good stuff is gone and the fishermen arrive. I do OK but not as good as her. The stuff ranges all over from soft to hard water. One of my best buys this year was a New in Box Garmin fish/depth finder. $10. It was missing the "Y" connection so I contacted Garmin and they sent it to me for under $30. I plan on using it this winter ice fishing with a small 12 volt battery. May not be as good as the Vex's or Marcum's but without the hefty price. As luck would have it I bought a new one for my smaller boat 2 weeks before this. I've bought 2 paulin heater/cookers, 1 burner coleman propane stove, ATV,new line and a bunch other this year alone. Helps on the wallet this way.
