artificial walleye jigging presentations?
« on: Feb 11, 2021, 07:23 PM »
I know it's a long shot, jigging walleye on Champlain, but it's my current obsession.

Does anybody have walleye presentations that don't involve a minnow?

Every video I watch and every article I read tells me to tip my lure with a minnow head.  Slender Spoons, Buckshot Spoons, Rattlemasters, Jigging Rapalas, Hyper Rattles... all tipped with minnow heads.

My problem is I don't really want to mess with minnows.  Nothing against it in principle-- I just find it to be a pain in the neck.

I found one video where some guys were tipping Buckshot Spoons with little panfish plastics.  They caught some.  But obviously it was their job to advertise the plastics.

I managed to catch one short walleye on Carmi, with a thin strip of cut perch on a Rattlemaster.

Awesome!  I meat to pick up a Chubby Darter or two but never did.  Those pics are inspiring!  Looks like you're catching them at night?

Lindy rattln flyer perch color or acme google eye jig pink in color or tiny pink tungsten jig head both tiny pink berkley plastic bait. Pound the bottom then play keep away. You will also encounter jumbo perch when you get into the walleye territory. Tight lines

Thanks!  I had a feeling that the little pink plastics that I use for crappies might work.  Now I just have to find the fish

The magic hour!
For some reason I get interested in the nocturnal fish.  Crappies.  Walleyes I started fishing last spring and I was instantly hooked.  And stripers!  I only started fishing for stripers in August-- and boy did I get obsessed!  I made a lot of trips to MA with my kayak.  I may have slept in my car more than I slept in my house in August and September  ;D .  I'm so psyched to head down in the spring.

Northland tackle mimic minnow shads (3/8oz) work well for jigging, and even casting for walleye (and lake trout).

Those look pretty sweet, thanks.
