Gov. Mills ought to change her focus from covid to mandating carrying a chisel and picks for the next few days, atleast central and southern if not the entire State.  Edges are already trash, ice is minimal, and top is white ice.  You put 1-2" of rain on top of it, especially flow through lakes and you got a recipe for disaster.   Be safe and watch those kiddos that's for damn sure.

We should see some ice building this coming week!

It WOULD be good for IFW to put out an advisory.

Where I’m going tomorrow, the ice should be good. Edges might be a little sketchy though.

Step lightly and spud as you go!

A couple of days ago a lady at Schoodic Lake lost her dog through the ice. it go off the run, ran out on the ice and poof gone.
If you fish the wrong lure long and hard enough it will eventually become the right lure!

Plenty of ice in Jackman...had a great day yesterday with the brookies. Lake is like a Chesney concert so many people on it.

It's as bad as I've seen in central maine for this late into January grub, what little ice there is has no hardness to it.  I watched a group out into a channel yesterday afternoon with a youngster and I was on shore on 3-4" of junk.  If us old guys can atleast make the young bucks think a little,  the PSA will be worth it.   I see only 20's and teens ahead,  need some real cold for sure.

I'm 59 and was born here. This is the first time in my life we couldn't get on a local pond on January 1st. Oh well, its Mother Nature, if it was Father Nature we would work something out. ;) On a positive note my wood shed is still full and I like that.

I was on 13-15 inches of solid ice yesterday. The forecast calls for a foot or more of snow today and a slight rise in temperature will make it a wet heavy snow. I'm not worries about finding safe ice or solid edges. I'm more concerned with slush.

was out on eagle yesterday and long the day before. best i found was 5-6in of ice. at least it was good clear ice but with the sled i was pretty nervous. i was the 1st. to fish both spots if that tells you anything about how sketchy it is! be safe and check often folks! dont guess. measure!
