Lowrance Ice machine
« on: Sep 04, 2006, 05:47 PM »
Anybody use one of these Ice machines. I am a diehard vexilar user but was thinking of one of these. I wonder if they have a new model this year? I got suckered into a AquaVu Scout, the larger one, last year. Not happy with it wish I had my little ZT back that failed.

What is it that you don't like about the scout? I have the DT and I have always wondered if I would have liked the bigger screen better. BTW my DT also failed after I was caught in a rain storm. Aqua vu replaced the monitor for me

The unit is heavy and bulky and subject to water entering the innerds. The plastic fish casing around the camera broke day one. Two LEDS remain dimmly lit even though the lights are on off position. Forget about seeing anything on the display if the sun is up. Battery life stinks. I loved my ZT unit but it died, not sure I want another.

I have an ice machine, and even though i havent' used mine on the ice yet, i seen one in action last season and liked it alot.  I used mine for open water this year and loved it for that also.  Thorne Bros. had free shipping and a free summer transducer when i got mine back in March.   Just checked and they still have it:  http://www.thornebros.com/winter/electronics/electronics_lowrance/X67Cicemachine.html

As far as the aqua-vu, I purchased a ZT a little while ago.  I only had it for a couple days when moisture somehow managed to get into and that was the end for it.  I sent it back, and i'm not sure if I want another or not.

Im very interested in buying one of these. If I buy the summer transducer then I will be able to mount it right on my dash like any other fish finder and just switch the transducers for ice/open water? Thanks for the help. ;D

Yes.  As i mentioned, the summer transducer comes free along with the iceducer from the site above.  I use the iceducer for open water when i'm vertical jigging.  Trolling is when i use the summer transducer.

I have heard that the Ice Machine is a battery hog compared to flashers. Are they?

I heard of guys trying to use the X-102C on the ice and discovered they were battery gulpers.
The 102C is the same as the X67 but quite a bit bigger. Haven't heard any complaints about the X67 though.

the ice machine will last up to 24 hours on a single charge and can take temps as low as -50 Fahrenheit

Anyone who uses a flasher or fishfinder or camera is a dirty cheater and they should be ashamed. I use the Fl-18 and FL8. I`d rather be a cheater then get outfished all the time.
Every plastics manufacturer claims plastics outfish livebait. So now I use livebait just for the increased challenge.

Not sure if I am going to get an Ice Machine or camera(probably not an Aqua-vu though) but I sure love the temp readout on AV's. My Fl-18 is great with the bottom zoom feature, does Ice Machine have that ?

Ive said this before but go to the Lowrance website and down load the simulator to your computer. You can download the X67C and the M68C as well as a host of others. The sim is geared toward open water from a boat, but you can play with all the features the same as if it was sitting right in front of you. Pretty cool!

Skipper,

The ice machine is definetly not a battery hog.  They last forever.

With the x67, you have the option to bottom zoom when you push the pages button while on the sonar screen, the screen will split and the left hand side is the bottom zoom.... right side is the sonar screen...  one more push of the pages (Enter) button will get the depth finder, water temp info screen,  another push gets you the flasher screen...  one more and your back at the sonar....    I just got mine, what I found out was try the auto sensitivity for a few, till you see how it all works, then try turning that off and adjusting up and down till you find that happy/medium level of sensitivy that shows the fish and your jig...  it's pretty neat how you can see your jig on the sonar and how it relates to the water column.... and then watch the arches come out of the bottom..... Fish On... and Good Luck with it... ;)

i am having a problem choosing myself...leaning towards the ice machine ,cause of the options...flasher..son ar, temp. etc...seems like even the hardcore flasher guys would like the choices, but some of them seem to resist technology ??? ::) :P

I went with this unit for the same reason,  I can use the sonar on my canoe in the summer,  I'm thinking on trolling motor mounting the transducer this summer.....  It has a lot of options, and for what I had available for funds to cover all my bases, it fit the bill.... ;)

Does the Ice machine have interference rejection?  Has anyone had problems when using it near others with flashers?

cool, I guess negative propaganda can run rampent! I read in an article they were bigtime battery hogs. I also read they were slow in the cold, and not "real time". I know this is all BS!!

Have the unit on my boat and it works very well. just ordered the ice pack for it, wont know for a few more weeks how it works on the ice. have a friend that has one and when you switch to flasher mode its a lot like a vex. have seen his work and it does a good job.
