On the board for the 20-21 Ice Season. Good morning Trout Fishing.

Great first day on the ice here in Maine. 5 degrees. 5" of ice. The trout were feisty till about 10ish, then they shut off. Link to the video is below if anyone is interested in checking it out. Stay safe if you're headed out over the next week or so!!!

5" of solid black ice. Was making ice all morning. Setting up good on the smaller ponds in central Maine.

I wish the action was as good today. Fishing the same spot, really slow. I didn’t have much of a chance to use the jig rod. We were running for flags all morning

we got 4 splake and 4 doz. smelt was pretty slow for this lake. 7in. of good black ice. all smelt went into my tank for jan. 1 opener.

Sounds like a good day. Every year I say I’m going to jig for smelts. Never do. We have a few lakes that are full of them, and should be good fishing. Do you jig for them, or use boards??

I’m heading back to the crappies and BIG yellows again tomorrow. Daybreak this time. Got there a little late yesterday.
 Wicked bite for about 2.5 hours then died right off.

Sounds like a good day. Every year I say I’m going to jig for smelts. Never do. We have a few lakes that are full of them, and should be good fishing. Do you jig for them, or use boards??

u.l rods and small lures with several hooks tied on the line above it. most lakes up here have smelts. i put a cabin on long lake and get the big ones there. some in the 12in. range. lots of fun for the wife and i. she wont go flagging but likes fishing in the warm cabin. she got a 3.5 salmon last year on her u.l. was pretty proud! you ever up in the County give me a yell. maybe make a smelting/ native brookie vid. your only 2.5hrs from me. you ever want to stay in a nice lodge on the Fish river, check out my brothers new place on facebook. goes under deans den in soldier pond. great trolling/ flyfishing there in the spring/summer and close by to all the F.R.C of lakes.

Thanks for the info! I’d love to head north sometime. Getting easier now that my daughter is getting older, and I don’t have to work weekends. May be able to make it work this season
