TIME VS. WEATHER>>THE CLOCK IS TICKING
« on: Jan 11, 2023, 10:11 PM »
This Winter Solitce started 12/21/22 AM :) and will last roughly 90 days Veral Eqinox (Spring). I that time the EARTH will tillt 23 degrees(-) making the SUN rise  in the SKY.So far the weather has not produce any walkable ice in the Valley and we have lost about 8 of those degrees tiltI . I HATE to present these facts, they might vary slightly but the model is OK. The Sun/Time  is the enemy of ICE at this point, not the WEATHER...Take care guys.  One Grumpy Old Man

Yup screwed, typically making 6-12 inches of ice by now instead of 0. Whatever ice we get won't last very long once it begins to warm up again. I went out 3 times so far.

NOT IN THE VALLEY>>>I WAS OUT TO THREE PONDS YESTERDAY>>>>ALL OPEN>>>>CHAPIN----9 MILE--LOON. WHERE IS ALL THIS 'BIG ICE". A number of times guys talk about thickness of ICE but never WHERE....It is always 40/50 miles away On the CT. River water system laloaded with  PCB'S.MERC, LEAD and the fish glow at nite. Has anyone read lately how many fish you can eat from MASS/CT. waters???? AS a kid I remember the burning dumps along the Ct. River Chicopee, West Side, Springfield. You could tell the color of paper they where running in Holyoke that day by the color of the Ct. River at the old Chicopee/W. Spfld. Bridge

Heck, I haven't even broken out the gear yet because of the weather.
Any time we get weather cold enough to make ANY ice, it soon rains and washes it all away.
I wouldn't be against a little travel, but with the conditions we all been having, but sometimes it's not worth the time and fuel to drive all over the planet in the hopes of finding a place to fish. (that's why I do my searches earlier in the season, so I can find new places to fish).

I may be open water fishing this weekend.

I could drive and find ice easily in the hilltowns of north central or nothern berkshires but the fact is I could care less about fishing for a few small pickerel couple bass and perch. All the water I would like to spend my time fiahing is not going to freeze at all this year. so I'm enjoying my time catching large trout in the ponds lakes and rivers across Central and southeast mass.

I bet Feb and March end up allowing you to get on those bodies of water.  It might be a short window but we've had the early Jan. thaw before and things have buttoned up nicely.  Agree worst/shortest year I've ever experienced but going to make the best of it.  Headed to the dacks this weekend.
