Mount Tom 12/20 report
« on: Dec 20, 2019, 05:50 PM »
I checked Tom this evening. Also looked on 12/18. On 12/18, most of beach area was frozen with patchwork of open water mixed in. Just drove by, knowing it was unsafe
When I returned this evening, those patches had frozen and appear as black patches.
The pond was extremely high when it froze.  There is a gap between the ice and the water along the shoreline. Very hard to get on without a plank.
The ice that is white on top was about 2.5”. I didn’t venture far out as I was alone. I wouldn’t trust the black patches
I do not consider it safe and recommend going further north to find safe ice
Waramaug was all open water.
If you can't play nice, get off the ice!

Stopped by on way back from Goshen and found one guy fishing/sleeping in his car just off beach. He was a bit concerned about being on the ice and smartly stayed close to shore.
No fish.

12/24 update
Whole lake locked up measured 4” on thickest ice   3” on black spots. Surface melting from warm sun.

Mount skunk produced 1 flag with 24 tilts set. 5” of line out and dropped. Fished 5 hours and had an uninterrupted breakfast.
Have seen guys fishing beach cove with the same results on 12/22 and 12/23. Very tough fishing there.

Main basin froze in stages and I didn’t go all the way out there. Be careful if you do, nobody as been in the middle and there may be spots with thin ice.

In front of the Farm stand froze last.  There was open water out that way couple days ago.  Saw guys fishing pretty far out on the 23rd.  Skipped it and fished in Kent.

Is sanzeris bait good?  Last year I felt they died really fast.  I'm planning on stopping tomorrow morning before heading out to torrington or winchester way

I've always felt the same way. But plenty of people swear by them.

I have never had an issue with their bait.  If I did I wouldn't go there.  She historically had well graded bait, a pike bait was actually pike bait sized.
