Pop up Conversion Help!

Hey Guys,

Just bought an old Jayco pop up for $150 to turn into my new permanent shack. My original plan was to strip it down to the trailer and build the new shack on top.However after a lot of research I’m considering using the base of the pop up and framing out the walls on top of that. Either way I will scrap the roof and put in a insulated metal roof. What do you guys recommend? I have a wood burner to put in for heat, as well as a solar panel to charge the batteries. It will mostly be used for day trips but I am planning on building 2 fold up bunks for weekend trips. My main reason for tearing it down to the frame and building new is to utilize the V at the front of the trailer for more space and also better handling while trailering. Is it worth keeping those little 1/4 walls and building off them? Or just tear it down and start new? Thanks for the input, pictures to follow

My son bought an old popup last spring and tore it down to the bare frame and built on that. I've seen it done both ways.

Strip it down to frame, add the "V", make it drop-down, insulate floor, walls & roof. May be a bit more work but you will be very happy with the results.
