Alternative float suits
« on: Nov 07, 2019, 11:29 AM »
Are there any cheaper alternatives to the name brand (Striker, Clam, etc) floating bibs and jackets?  I don’t get out enough to justify the cost of some of these. I know you get what you pay for, but I’d be willing to try out something cheaper if I could find something.

If you use them once a year, that is justified in my mind!

Ice runner has a video I saw maybe in the new gear thread or best ice deal thread. Believe the whole suit is 169

do you plan on outgrowing them every year?  if not, whatever you buy will last many years.

I have Arctic Armor bibs and love them. Can't remember how much I paid for them (about 7-8 years ago), but got them at Dicks.

https://www.amazon.com/Mossi-Synergy-Heavy-Polyester-Ladies/dp/B005E0VKPK  float, warm, same as mens just have smaller womens sizing. $49

$39 for mens small https://www.amazon.com/Mossi-Mantis-Heavy-Polyester-Black/dp/B005E0WHDO?ref_=ast_sto_dp

I wear float bibs and layer up on the top - no floating jacket. I wear a life jacket on unkown/sketchy ice.

At least a life vest. Big enough to fit over your normal clothing. Better than nothing.

The Eskimo jacket is $79 at marine general for the last week or so....seems like a cheap insurance
