It is the FD’s hope that, once the State’s fiscal climate improves, the Division might potentially be in a position to re-establish production of the Seeforellen strain, with eggs supplied from the State of Maine.

Yeah right.  You will never see a seeforllen program in this state again.  There is no way that a politician is going to put $ into a NEW stocking program.  It will NEVER be in the budget for this state.

Sadly I think PikeKing23 is correct. Yay $5 trout tax.

Hey Chawk, how you doing?  I'm still using that gas powered drill.  Runs like a top and way lighter than a gas auger.  I even ordered a new shroud and pained the rusty parts.  I love that thing.  Thanks again!

You guys are killing me. The five dollar trout stamp is exactly why the Seeforellen program is in the works and has been in the works ever since some of those eggs that went to Maine were saved. Remember this post in two or three years, trust me.....

If it can’t reproduce in the body of water it’s put in then what is the point.

I’m guessing to give anglers in this state the chance to catch a big trout.

Is it too much to ask for a solid breed of naturally reproducing trout is the waters.

The state does that in the farmington river.  Look up the survivor strain program.

Doing great. Retired 2yrs ago and been doing a lot of fishing and traveling and volunteer work. I’m glad that Tanaka went to a good home, it was too nice to be in the dumpster. Check out what I found at the local transfer station last month, one mans junk is another’s treasure!

Indeed. I thought I was hallucinating when I got ready to toss some old rusty shelving into the roll off. The condition in the pic is exactly as found, it appears all original not restored. Not sure whether to keep and use it or not.

Seeforleen Brown trout are a very voracious strain of brown trout. They eat and eat and will devastate fish populations in what ever waters they are stocked. Worst was when they stocked West Hill. They nearly wiped out some other trout and seriously damaged the Kokanee fishery.
From what I heard from some Ct. Biologists, it was a bad decision to stock this strain of Brown trout and they won't be doing it again. Pike is another fish that Ct is sorry to have stocked as they are not native, voracious, detrimental to other fish populations. Maine has a bounty on Pike and want all caught killed or left for eagles or coyotes.
Also these so called bucket biologists that stock certain fish in waters that never had them can and do serious damage to fisheries.
Please, please STOP this malicious practice!
Pretty much so, seeforleen brown trout were also stocked in east twin lake. They grew quickly dining on the alewives as their main food source in the lake at the time. The alewives were killed off after they were found to be competing with the kokanee salmon industry which in turn eliminated the numbers of those huge browns.

LOL.  Where are you getting this information?  CT began stocking pike to CONTROL other fish populations.  The CT DEEP can't be too sorry about it considering they still do it every year.  ??? ::)

Depends what fish populations their trying to control. Pike can wipe out trout and will do a number on perch before they will eat other panfish species. I've caught a 10 lb. northern with  half a bullhead  in its gut.

I’m pretty sure the pike in the Housatonic River system (housy, lili, Zoar) are from the mass stocking program.
