Frabill Ranger Xl first impressions...
« on: Jan 22, 2004, 08:26 AM »
Hi.  I currently use a Shapell 2000 series shanty, and am really happy with it.  BUT, I saw a Ranger in the local sporting goods store yesterday....WOW....I am impressed.  I sat in the chair, and my back was saying  YES..YES!! So I was just wondering what everyone thinks of this nice pieee of work.  I was wondering if the seats would hold me, cause they sit on the side of the sled, but it felt secure, even for my 250+ lbs.  The view was excellent, and the door is big.  And it can be used half-up for a wind break, if you are moving alot.  Also, what fish-trap would this be comparable to??   And, where could you order a Ranger?  Cabela's only has the Venture model, and Thorne Bros. don't even carry Frabill shelters.
Thanks for any help...

PS  I may have a Shapell 2000 for sale....cheap....$75.00 or best..

I was looking at the ranger xlt and it seemed nice except no support poles like the clam.  The material also seemed not quit as nice as the clams.  Still a very very nice shelter but just out of my price range.  to get a list of dealers or to order  www.frabill.com

If you saw the Frabill in a local sporting goods store, why do you need to know where you can order one?  Why not buy it there?

Well I can get it there, it's just that usually by the time I get there it will be gone, and I think it is the last one.
Just looking for a little extra ordering info., in case I decide thats what I want, and can no longer get...

Cook078: I own a Frabil ultra lite and wish I had the seat like the new ones do.The material has held up well on mine, My father bought a clam new last year and has torn the material on his already. We put well over 100 hrs on the ice here in NYS last year.I also sat in that sled at Gandermoutain and I wanted one.
When the ice is on. I'm on the ice.

My fishing buddy has one of these frabill ranger triplex (3 man) and we absolutely love it. It is durable, holds my 250+ lbs without hesitation. make sure you have anchors or you will go a sailing on those windy days :o...we found out from experience ;D. it folds up quickly and opens quick as well...do you have a scheels there? you can buy one from them thats where my buddy got his. http://www.frabill.com/port_iceshelters.html#triPlex
on this site they will direct you to where you can get one.

My buddy has the XL twin. Loves the space, hates the weight. If you have a machine to pull it, great, otherwise, don't even think about venturing out in any amount of snow on foot.

my buddys triplex isnt all that bad...of course when you have it loaded with everything it is a little heavy and 2 people are a plus, but I know for a fact that either one of us could do it alone...and if we are walking on the ice it isnt too bad to pull at all...unless there is a lot of snow then it is a little tougher I guess.
