Vexilar Transducer issue
« on: Jan 31, 2019, 06:58 PM »
Bought my FL-18 brand new like 6 years ago. Last winter I started seeing faint green lines on my Vex. It didn't bother me too much, but was annoying. This year I was out and the lines were so bad I couldn't see my jig, but I could see the bottom perfectly normal.

I but a new battery on it this summer. And cleaned the brushes, and all internals a week ago. Took it out, same issue, faint green lines, couldn't mark fish or see my jig, but bottom was perfect.

Decided to buy a new 12 degree transducer. Got it in the mail today and noticed the bottom of the new one looks much cleaner than mine.

I don't know what happened to mine or if it came that way, but it has all this goop stuff that has squirted out of the sides of the bottom puck. Has anyone else seen this?

I'm going to take the new one out tonight to try it. If the new one fixes the green lines, I'm wondering if just scraping off the goop with an exacto knife would fix it.

Contact Vexilar CS ..they are very good to respond ...advise them of the defect . Vexilar has had past issues with the Vexilar TriBeams and did a replacement for them several years back. What case is was the transducer puck placed in Pro..Ultra...Genz...is it possible it got froze in there one time ...or was it subjected to excessive heat.

Mine looks like that at the bottom also. I also have problems with random green lines and sometimes I can’t find my jig on the auto zoom. Maybe I will give them a call

I have the Genz pack, it's a 12 degree ducer. I mean, I treat this thing, and most of my gear like crap. I could see heat causing an issue like what I have in the photo. But outside of ice season, it's on a shelf in my basement.

I didn't bother with contacting CS because of how long I've had it. I guess maybe I could see what they say.

I found a guy with great photos of the same issue I had, on another forum. He never really did figure it out. But he bought a new transducer and it corrected his problem.

I went out and tried the new transducer, all is good again. I'll try to scrape that material back to flush this weekened, and see if it fixes my problem transducer.

Let me know what they say. Mine is doing the same thing and looks the same as yours. Mine is only about three years old.

Here is what they sent me:

"That is just excess epoxy from when it cured. This will not have any effect on the sensitivity as it’s located on the outer edge away from the main crystal inside. You could try cleaning it off but I’m guessing you’d’ have the same results."

So I still am not sure what caused those green lines. Maybe the transducer cable got a cut somewhere, no idea. Had to be the transducer or cable, because the new transducer fixed my issue.

never seen one separate and only thing i can think of is water got in it and pushed the cap loose.

the green lines may have been a damaged crystal from hitting it or water/ice or both.

The transducer was hanging down straight ...litter bend/kink could cause some issues

I think that’s what mine ended up being. Mine is only a little over three years old. So vexilar is going to replace it.
