Finding New Ice NEPA
« on: Jan 19, 2019, 04:19 PM »
I've been ice fishing for about 10 years now, and have mainly gone out on Nockamixon and Beltzville, with mixed results, mainly just pickerel and the occasional musky.  Was wondering what lakes in the pocono area you guys have decent luck at.  I'm mostly a tip-up guy, but would like to start getting into jigging as well.  Any and all inputs appreciated!

Mauch Chunk. Usually tip up heaven. But no monsters. Pickerel and 14 3/4 inch largemouths. Jigging lots of gills and perch on a good day

Check out my posts on: Ice Reports by County and show me the nepa reports. I would like to get down to Beltzville when it freezes and go for a Striper. The best lake in NEPA is Walenpaupac. You should fish the coves at the access areas. Pick up a map and bait at the Walenpaupac bait shop at Mangans Launch. The owner will give you some good tips.

I did alright on tuscarora last year, it definitely gets more solid ice than beltzville. I feel there's a better chance of hooking into something interesting there than Mauch Chunk.

My favorite to fish was Hollister res. in Moscow, but I moved south to Jim Thorpe so I haven't been in years. That's a neat little lake, pretty overlooked. If you live down my way and want to make a trip up there, let me know.

I’m in Pike Co, but I fish all over the Poconos.
Promised Land Upper and Lower lakes, Shohola, Merli Sarnoski, Fairview, The Pack, Upper Woods, Duck Harbor and some years Winola and Harvey’s.
Where's the FISH?!

Same as ruttnutt. We've typically find a few fish at any small lake in the Poconos - Promised Land, Shohola, Egypt Meadow, Fairview - Mainly Pickerel though.
