ATV or snowmobile rental?
« on: Jan 07, 2019, 11:31 PM »
Hello all.

I regularly make the drive from Rhode Island to Dags and fish in that area and also around Jack Traps (I am a bit of a gear whore).

Does anyone know of a place where one can rent an ATV or snowmobile and trailer?

I can tow it for sure, but would love to take my 9 yr old out on one.  He would remember that day forever.

Here is a pic of him last weekend with his second land locked salmon.  First was on a fly rod 2 years ago.

Any and all help appreciated.

I have found that with most of the sled rental places they won't rent a sled trailer. We have had to use our own when a buddy broke down on a sled trip. And be prepared, the sled rentals are usually $250 plus for 8am to 5pm. The place we rented was in Millinocket called N.E.O.C. I think they gave us a deal for my buddy to rent for 3 days and keep the sled 2 overnights (which wasn't easy to find either) and it was like $550.00.

I hadn't looked at the pic closely but saw this and thought, oh boy, here we go, another brown trout vs. salmon debate!  Guess I was wrong, but yeah, that sure looks more like a brook trout than a salmon, doesn't it?  :)

Looks like a brookie to me.
Fishing is easy. Catching is the hard part.

I don't know if you're going to find trailer rentals, and I'm not familiar with sled rentals in the area you're headed to. Perhaps give Dag's or Jack Traps a call, maybe they know?

Beautiful picture of your son and his fish.

Thanks for the replies.  Man, I looked at that fish up  lose and it didn't look like a brooke to me.  Although it looks like it in the photo, there was no white on the fins.  Soooooo, is this a salmon or brookie?

Hmmm... I can clearly see white on the fin that's in view. That is a brook trout not a salmon.

Nobody is going to rent you an ATV in the winter. ATVs are not allowed on most snowmobile trails that are groomed with state funds. I doubt you will find snowmobile rentals around Auburn or Monmouth. They are not known as snowmobiling destinations. Towns that cater to snowmobiling include Bingham, Jackman, Millinocket and Fort Kent. There are snowobile rental businesses in all of those towns. Your best bet to find a snowmobile near Dag's or Jack Traps is to hire a fishing guide who uses snowmobiles in his business. If you are looking for a day of snowmobiling with your son drive to Rangeley and rent a snowmobile for a day. It's the closest place from Dag's, about a 2 hour drive. You won't get a trailer but you can ride directly from the rental shop.
