So went out today with my dad and a few friends to lake carmi. Trip started out for perch and marked a lot of fish. The problem was the little perch would beat the bigger ones to the jig. This resulted in me catching a ton of little pencil perch. About halfway through the day my dad landed one nice keeper walleye. a bit later I hooked into something BIG I’m guessing a big pike or walleye. I got it to the edge of the hole and it turned and I caught a brief glimpse of it but couldn’t be sure of the species and at that moment my line snapped. Well I was pretty bummed so I opted to try jigging for a walleye or big perch. i happened to have a few rattle raps about 2 inches long and decided to give it a go. I got a few perch with it and was watching my vex when I saw a mark appear and crush my rattle rap I set the hook and immediately knew this was no perch my dad ran over along with my brother and his friend. We were all expecting a decent walleye but to our surprise it turned out to be a northern. Not. Bad day for my first trip of the year
