Burbot fishing on the Kenai Peninsula
« on: Mar 04, 2006, 12:07 AM »
Anyone know the best place to catch burbot on the peninsula?
I was at Juneau Lake and caught small ones(under a pound).

Don't know a thing about Juneau Lake but Welcome to iceshanty.com!
The moon is much smaller than the earth, however, it is much farther away.

Juneau and Trout lakes on the Res. Pass trail are the only known habitat for burbot on the Pen. And nobody even knows why they are there. I've never heard of any real big ones coming out of those lakes either. Sorry.
See you up the trail.

I have not caught any Burbot on the Kenai. Lake Louise drainage use to be great. We use to be able to have 15 sets. We fished Tyone and dog lakes and did very very good. I have not gone there in the last 15 years. Lake louise, and long lakes on the Glen offer pretty good. I have heard that birch creek in the Talkeetna also does very well. As far as The peninsula i have never heard of any one getting any burbot. If you catch one let us all know! Chef

There are indeed a few burbot on the Penn. Here is a picture of one caught in the recent Trustworthy Hardware derby:www.alaskaoutdoorjourn al.com/Derbies/Images/2006Derby/346burbotOPEN.jpg

Every year they have at least one burbot entry, but I suspect they are sparse and could easily be overfished.
See you up the trail.

Juneau Lake is 9 1/2 miles from the road, taking the shortest trail.
Not alot of people stop to fish Burbot. It is also closed to snowmachines for the last half of the winter,
which limits the people.
