Ice Before Thanksgiving
« on: Nov 10, 2018, 11:09 AM »
The next 10 days look like good ice making weather with nights in the teens and days mostly below freezing. I won't be surprized if some small ponds lock up. This could be my shortest off-season from ice fishing.

I have been thinking for a couple weeks that with the weather trend we could very well be on ice by Thanksgiving. I just finally gave up on open water fishing this week and put the boat away. Flasher is charged and ready to go and so am I.

I’ve been getting familiar with my new Garmin ice bundle by using it in the boat since sept. Already have a new togue rod put together, working on a second.

High temp of 15° forecast for Wednesday, 9° Wednesday night. That will make ice on some small ponds. I'm going to try next Sunday.

Hey guys, looking for a good lake in Maine with lodge right on the lake. All c&r and fish for all kinds of fish.
A bad day of ice fishing is better than any day at work!

I drove past two ponds with a skin of ice today. My early season pond should be able to hold my weight by the weekend. Half of the pond is only 3 feet deep. It's a perfect place to test the ice.

I was out the same day on about the same ice thickness. My catch was smaller than his. I only caught a 3" bullhead. 206 days from my last spring outing to my first fall trip.
