Heritage Laker spool capacity
« on: Nov 07, 2018, 07:55 PM »
I see some Standard Lakers have poly spools that hold 100 yards and some 500 feet. Do they come with different spool sizes?  I do not want to order the wrong ones.
I plan to live forever. So far so good!

To my knowledge they only make one size spool unless the capacity on the metal spools is less

Should be 500 ft of 36lb line. All I know is they hold plenty of line I don’t think I have ever had more then 100 ft off the spool while catching fish. Only time I have had a lot of line out was fishing lakers in 100 ft of water and even then still plenty of line left. I’ll be picking up a set of the lil lakers this year st the expo great deals on them there

I emailed the company and they responded very quickly.
“Our reels are all the same size.
They can easily hold 150 yard, [ 450 ] feet of this size line.”
That was with 36# backing. For some reason several places advertise the reels hold only 100 yards.

You would think they would have the specs on their website.   Can’t remember if I put backing on my spoils was thinking of upgrading to a waxed line this year

What is the more popular choice poly or steel? I find poly snaps the ice off better.

Never had the steel almost pulled the trigger on so steel spools last year but never did. I like the poly never had a problem with them

My oldest ones are 36 or so years old, metal spools,  and they work fine.  The newer ones work fine too.  Built by Americans in America with wood locally sourced.  The other half of the company was formed in 1857 and is still making tools for woods work.  They cost a bit more than some things but I don't have many other items of equipment that old that still work like the day I bought them.
