What do you do when there is a shack a few camps down from yours and the guys there fishing are using the lake as an ashtray???

pick em up, thats one thing. A better idea is to dump cat urine all over his shack, smells as bad a cigarettes everywhere.

id just say "hey bud none of my business but i saw the wardens nosing around your shack the other day and they were pointing down at the ice and writing stuff down." then throw in, might not be bad idea to clean up these butts in case ya hear from them"...lots of smokers are just so used to flicking them everywhere for some reason they dont think its littering

but if you bring it to their attention i think most would clean them up.

why people toss em I dont know. This subject is touchier than pike! I think there is nothing more rude than just tossing crap on the ground/ice/water. The bigger problem is I have reported issues before only to have nothing happen.

As we all have seen, some of those cigarette butts end up stuck in fish stomachs -- I've found them in salmon, togue, brook trout, and bass. They can create blockages in the stomach and intestines, and you can imagine that doesn't help future life and growth. Guess it would be like one of us swallowing a tampon and expecting to live a healthy life afterwards!

I found if I pick one up, the butt dumper gets the hint and stops throwing them down. I never could understand why a shanty with a wood stove inside has cigarette butts just outside the door, burn them up man.

i fish with a bud that smokes both but he'll smoke 3 paks a day and save all cig butts because he has gutted fish that are loaded with butts dont want to eat that one but he'll preach to people in our party of the day and he usually wins out people usually listen thta goes the same on the ocean as well gutted stripers with butts in their guts nothing like a lil marlboro marination!!!!! i,d yard that shACK ACROSS THE OTHER SIDE OF Lake!!!

What about the raw sewage that was pumped directly into many of these lakes?

What about the silt run-off from all the new excavation/construction that impairs the water quality?

I think there are bigger battles to wage that chew spit on the ice.

I dont smoke but if brookies are in a biting mood they will hit at them ive seen um do it had fun with the fly rod that day couldnt get them to not hit the fly.

I let a buddy of mine use my shanty on sabattus saturday and when I showed up to fish sunday morning there were butts all around the d@#n thing !! they were around the holes he had fished the day before. I think he must've smoked 2 packs for pete's sake.....So....I picked up what I saw. I'll be pulling it off the ice this week, but if I wasn't and he wanted to use it again, I'd make sure he knew that there was a trash bag inside the shanty for a reason....GEEZ.

That is the point there is enough crap going into our lakes we don't need anymore trash!!

I think the spit would only be an issue if you slipped and fell in it.Kinda like urine.
