I have read a few articles disputing any accuracy beyond 10 days. Accuweather has some ridiculously long-term forecasts now. Anybody have any insight on this (and yes, Jon, I know weather.gov is your go-to ;))?!

And on a side note, I have set a personal goal of being friendly with/not trolling IowaAccord66 this season. I want to be friendly with everybody on this site!!  :tipup: :tipup: ;D ;D

I wouldn't put much too much weight in it but it's a good guide. I don't think it's modeled off current patterns, but rather off historical data and current trends. This yeah has been slightly warmer than last year, and comparing the Jan 2018 forecast to the Jan 2017 historical on accuweather shows the same basic pattern, just slightly warmer.

I wouldn't trust accuweather for the days forecast much less a long range forecast. Check out the NOAA forecasts.

If you are going to go deep into forecasts you need a solid understanding of the different computer models that create the forecasts.  I typically will hang on the Euro model because typically its more accurate than the GFS models.  The tech behind the Euro models is newer.

...and thanks Flatland...just remember I dont have feelings  ;D

I have seen Accuweather on long range /monthly weather ..both higher and lower temps..but for the most part it averages out

I go here for snow forecasts predictions

my brother retired as a Meteorologist recently, he always said;
3 days 75-90% accurate
4-7  50 -75
more than 7 days, forget about it

 :tipup:  I usually note the ten day forecast for both Accu Weather and NOAA.   Interesting to see how accurate the forecast is for each day?  Snow predictions seem to be the worst??
Compare forecast to actual for a while and you will have a better feel for predictions!

 You can go to weatherbell and watch the Saturday forecast for long range forecasting. I've been watching it for years and have to say they are very good on long range forecasts. They don't forecasts for exact days long range. It's more an overall look at trends weekly to monthly. They hit the nail on the head for this month back in September/October. Looks very promising right into Mid January for cold.

i usually just look for weather patterns in the long range! a warming trend or cold spell. i dont really focus on the actual temps

 :tipup:  I've like the accu weather forecast since Thanksgiving  BUT here the white mountains they missed several days of snow completely?  That snow has messed up my ice computations a lot!
2 inches of ice with 4 inches of snow isn't anything that I want check out with my spud ::)
