FEELS LIKE   -42°C
...calling for -37C which for our southern members is just about the same as -40F....-40C and -40F are equal......combined with the northerly winds....its fricken cold outside....the woodstove is nice and toasty warm.....but the Green Machine might be left for another weekend to watch the Daytona 500.....and here's the good news....its blowing your way!!!!!!!!!!!......dont get those golf clubs out too early....there's going to alot of hardwater yet.....Grump  ;D

hey taxidermist i checked your home state and now i want to ask you if youve ever expeirienced the above temps.while ice fishn. If your not in a wood stove shack there is no remote possible way you could ever fish outdoors. We would be more than happy to bring the ice down to you but you would be hating the temp to go with the ice. Here in saskatchewan tonight it is expected to reach -50c with the windchill.yikes

We've seen it 35 below here but that's very rare. I do remember one winter back in the 70's when it was 25 below with high winds around Christmas. Christmas Mass was actually cancelled that year. Don't know what the wind chill was but it was dangerous. If I remember right some idiot decided to walk home from work without a jacket. They found him frozen stiff in a roadside ditch. I seem to also recall the weatherman said those temps came across and down all the way from Siberia.

I think I'd give it my best shot in my fishtrap guide and some additional heat. I'm thinking about building a permanent shed/shanty over the pond on posts so I can use it for storage in summer and fish out of it in winter. If I had that set up I could heat it.

Please please send it down.

I hope you're not offended but I have considered retiring in Canada. Some folks go south when they retire. I want go north!

The only thing singing here in southern Michigan is the robins.  It's just not right.
We get a taste of cold weather accompanied by high winds.  Then back into the 50s
and rain.  Too cold to fish from a boat IMO and not enough ice to be safe.  Grrrrrr
I think I'm hearing opera music around here.

I am still keeping the faith here in N.W. Ohio, it is supposed to be 11f tonight, 7f Sat. niight, 10f Sun. night, and 14f Mon. night.  We still have a chance to get on some ponds next week.

If I remember right like 4 years ago I fished in -25 or so wind chills with no shanty, it was tough but not impossible. (got a fish trap pro now so I probably won't have to do that agian.)  About 8 years ago they forecast a record low air temp for our region of -14f.  I decided that would be a good night to do some coldweather camping with no tent.  Packed up my backpack with my sleeping bag and warm gear and camped out in our woods, if you dress right its not as tough as you might think.  By the way it only got to -7f.
Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away.

I can't believe how horrible this winter has been.  I wish the weather would make up it's mind.
