OT - Proposed bills
« on: Mar 08, 2017, 05:14 AM »
http://georgesoutdoornews.bangordailynews.com/2017/02/22/fishing/february-28-legislative-hearings-feature-exotic-animals-fish-hatcheries-and-more/

The expanded open water season seems logical, considering our summers have been warmer and longer.

Is a $5 sticker tax needed for my aluminum canoe?
Do we really need a more legally complicated process to our hobby? It'd be nice if we could shrink our rulebook and make it more user friendly!

It's time for George Smith to end his involvment with the legislature and stick to his blogs and restaurant reviews. He's the person who pushed Tom Saviello to introduce the bill to restrict foraging. These three bills have been sponsored by three other legislators. That tells me he shops for someone to introduce the billls he wants instead of just going to his own representatives. The senators and representatives who introduced these bills on his behalf should have told him no and sent him back to his own district. When George Smith was with the Sportsman's Alliance of Maine he ws a strong lobbyist for outdoorsmen. Now we see his real colors.

I'm so tired of George Smith. He's not doing anything to help us, just his own views.

George seems to spend a lot of time and effort on trying to maintain (or regain) his relevancy.

LD 128 has been "tabled" Joe.
That means it got shot down as written and will now be rewritten using information that people objected to. A sort of compromise as you will. I need to find out if they hold another public hearing when it is rewritten or the committee just takes a vote on the new version.
More to come if you're interested.

I wish I had the time to attend more of these public hearings. I'm just now getting to see the glimpses the sausage being made. That forage bill seemed doomed as written imo.

Tom Saviello, the state senator who submitted the foraging bill, told me he expects to see something limiting commercial foraging. I'm considering a trip to George Smith's property to pick fiddleheads, strictly for my personal consumption. Would a couple dozen people like to join me?

Thanks! Please inform me of anything you feel relevant. IN a couple weeks I won’t be picking my head up much. The boss says it’ll be 9 day weeks getting this new business up and running.  ::) Looks like fishing will become somewhat limited for a while.... Any heads up s will be much appreciated!
