Ice Conditions & Parking
« on: Jan 19, 2017, 11:56 AM »
Hi,
I'm planning a trip up to Lake Champlain on Sunday from Barre. I'll have my 10 year old with me; not looking for anyone's secret spot - just some safe ice. Want to keep him busy with perch and I'd like to catch  a couple pike.
I usually head to the Gut, but seems like ice is sketchy at best. During summer I fish Kings Bay and Allen Bay often - thought about heading there - anyone know if safe ice?
Plan B was to head to Keelers - but it's been 15-20 years since I fished there - where would I park? Do I park right on the main road or can I get closer to the lake?
Any suggestions for a Plan C?
Thanks - appreciate any information.
Chris

Keeler ok, public boat launch has good parking and the ice is safe enough for foot traffic out quite a ways.

Its hard to say what direction the ice is going to go..But you are pretty much safe everywhere you see ice in the islands for walking. We are seeing 8-10in on average from here in the north to the sandbar with open water in between in spots. All state parks are closed so you can access the lake at any one of those, along with any boat launches.

Went to St. Albans Bay last weekend. Good solid 8-10 inches in  most spots, but be careful!!! It randomly dropped down to 2-3 inches new the western shore.
