Central Ct Ice Report
« on: Dec 29, 2012, 10:01 AM »
Took a ride this morning checking the ice after picking up a nice spud at Ct Outfitters.

Silver lake in berlin was 95% locked up with to the right of the launch had a bit of open water. The ice there was only about .25 Checked the cove near the dam which was all locked up with about 1/2 of ice.

Black pond in meriden was 60% locked up the open water towards the marsh across the pond.Ice was half an inch about 10 feet out then thin after that.

Last stop was lake beseck in middlefield which was the worst of the three.Only about 40% locked up with open water at the launch. The dam was locked up but couldnt measure that.

I think with the cold weather we have and if the forecast holds up they should be good in the next 2 weeks. Especially silver lake looks most promising.

Good luck and stay safe everyone

Wethersfield Cove, 80% locked, only open water near the DMV, may be fishable next weekend!  Silver Lake(Berlin) completely locked up with .5'' - 1 inch of ice, and with the forecast looking good we should be icefishing smaller places by the middle of the week! Im pumped after last year, BRING ON THE ICE!!!  -Dan @)

Was up at Congamond around noon doing some snow management at the family house. South Pond was mostly covered, and Middle Pond looks mostly open. Took a few pics of South Pond, I'll put up later.

Here ya' go. Didn't measure since I was just taking a quick break. Ice looked punky and thin. Maybe an inch or two? Drove towards Saunders to look at Middle Pond. Other than a few edges, she was wide open and looked sporty with the winds.

Looking north towards Middle Pond.

Across the center of the lake.

And looking towards the south end where the stream runs out.

great report!
Fishing is a sport in which thinking is involved it is the covenant between nature and man, mother and son. Through fishing only can we recreate the link that has been tarnished throughout the existence of the modern era of mankind. Fishing is the answer yet people ignore it and consider it a "stupid" thing to do. What do these people do instead? They stare in front of color changing boxes. Is that life? My life is fishin

to "CTICE84": I only mention this becasue I got the impression you were newer to this sport, and I live in the genearl area you were checking.  Careful on Besek. If you haven't heard or seen it yourself, Besek is always a little wierd, even when its fully locked and has been plenty cold to make plenty Ice, there is always some soft spots on Besek straight out form the launch (springs??), so always use extra caution on Besek. Be safe! Peace-gb

Stopped by Black Pond on a break. Locked up with gray ice. About 3 inches off the ramp in a couple feet of water. I could feel it bouncing as I spuded out the hole. I'll give it a till next weekend if it stays as forcast.
