Replacement flasher battery recommendations
« on: Jan 06, 2017, 03:16 PM »
I'm shopping for a replacement 12 volt, 9ah sealed lead acid battery for my Marcum flasher. Are there brands/sources that you can recommend or to avoid? Thanks for your help.

Maybe you don't need a new 12 volt battery, you can use the battery from a cordless drill instead. That's what I'm using. You'll need to get a dc to dc voltage reducer like this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/LM2596-DC-DC-Buck-Converter-Step-Down-Module-Power-Supply-Module-for-Arduino-/262760405586?hash=item3d2dbd9a52:g:2FwAAOSwMmBV1aSC
I have that mounted on a small piece of 1X4 and a short piece of ABS pipe that fits around the battery connectors. My nickel metal hydride batteries are rated at 3.4 amp/hour and can run a flasher/fish finder for a good amount of time.

I use a gel cell motorcycle battery . I only have to charge it every 3 weeks. Never had it go dead

those batteries are not made to be cycled and charged over and over.they are made to stay full charge, start motorcycle then the stator or alternator takes over and keep the battery charged.not like a deep cycle battery.jmo
