Help needed atv/ flip up in truck box
« on: Mar 11, 2016, 01:00 PM »
I've been trying to figure out how to carry my ATV and Eskimo Wide 1 in my 6' truck box. ATV goes in the box OK but no room left for the ice hut. I don't want a trailer, no where to store it. Trying to figure out a rack option for the Atv but ran out of ideas. Help needed, I've got months to come up with a solution. Thanks Dani

Do you have a receiver hitch?  If so make a remove able hitch hauler the size of your shack.

Yes I have a receiver hitch. Plan on modifying the trailer hitch, first raise it up to 28" with a section of square tubing. Then to weld a round thick wall tubing onto it so it goes back a little more then the width of the flip up. Next put a larger thick wall tubing onto the first tubing with two angle iron welded across, build a base from there out of plywood. By using a door spring lock at the back, I will be able  to lock it in the desired position to travel and when I release it it will turn the base into a ramp. Sounds complicated but it will be an easy project. Hopefully get it done in the next month or so then I'll post picks. A couple more measurements to take and off to the welding shop. D

Tried it and no go. Tundra, Grizz 700, Zilla  28 12 12 (studded) or  Tatou 4s tracks and Eski Wide1 = no fit in Tundra. Need a double decker.  D

Check out this video... http://icefishingtoday.com/tricking-out-sleds-and-atvs/

The first shanty rack looks to be solid and easy to make. A few minor tweaks it could be a nice drive on/ drive off the truck shanty rack setup option?

Will a ladder rack fit the truck? Then take rack off after unloaded and unload atv's  will that work?? You could even get a cargo basket for the lader rack if needed there is ways to extend them and make them taller and pop off in on piece make it out of aluminum for weight reduction when you need it etc like hinge it etc or what ever so you can power thr atvs off the truck.. etc.. try discountramps.com  cabelas etc places for a lader/cargo rack.. if you think it will work you could also customize it so it does??
