Lower beech pond
« on: Feb 25, 2016, 08:21 AM »
Good morning all,

I'm headed up to lower beech pond and or lakes in the vicinity next weekend March 4-6 and I was wondering if any of you knew the ice conditions around there? Any info would help. Either way out trip is booked and we will make the best of it, thanks
Mark

With this weather there is absolutely no way to give you any kind of educated info 7-10 days out.
You count your years by the Winters.

It’s not being Cocky if you can back it up.

The ONLY educated guess you could get would be "There MIGHT be ice".

Sadly,  all earlier ice reports go out the window when you have any extended period of rain, wind and warm temps.

Hopefully there will be enough "safe" ice remaining for anglers to be able to fish.

I am curious...at what point would the derby officials even consider canceling the Meredith Derby?
Sure, it's a state-wide derby, so if there isn't safe ice on the big lakes there "could" be some in smaller ponds.
But what if the smaller ponds are just as bad, or even worse? Where does the liability lay in a case like that?
Do the derby organizers get reports of state-wide conditions, or just wing it and let the people find out for themselves?

Since this is a big money maker for Meredith and surrounding towns, I can see why they would not want to cancel it.
However, if there are multiple reports of people falling in because the derby was still being held, and the ONLY reason the people tried to head out was because it wasn't canceled, what kind of backlash will that have?

Sadly, we've gone from the "winter that wasn't" to the "spring that might be" in a short time.

Now the average seasonal weather will tend to be warm days and cold nights, with the emphasis on the "WARM" part.

All I can say is that for once in a long while "Puxatawney Phil" got it RIGHT!!! (Dang the groundhog!)

I will start prepping for an early spring kayak season, and see what the open water will bring!

Ok so now I'm 1 day out from headed north, any info would help? We may end up on land playing poker but I figured I'd give it one last shot at getting a report. I'll straight up be honest, this is another one of those threads of an out of towner from southern New England who's got no ice desperate and connected with family to try and get at least one trip in for the year. Thanks guys in advance,  wish us luck!

Can't speak for Lower Beech, fished Monday in the Rumney area 10+" locked up tight and has stayed cold since. Only advise is stay away from inlets and outlets. Fishing was slow only a bunch of slime darts and one decent WP. You should be good but use caution, Ice is different this year. Hope this helps good luck.
