Otter XT Pro Lodge
« on: Feb 13, 2016, 09:51 PM »
Decided to pull the trigger on an Otter XT Pro lodge that I found for a decent price.  Figured I wouldn't get to use it much this year but would have a nice new shelter for next year.  Well I just got done putting this thing together and let me just say this.  This thing is HUGE.  I didn't pay close enough attention to the dimensions except for the weight when I ordered.  and think I may have gone a little too big lol.  It will not fit in a 5 1/2 ft pickup box.  And yes it does weight a lot, around 120 lbs.  Overall assembly went well after i discovered I had put some of the wrong length poles in wrong places but after that it wasn't bad at all.   I'm taking it out tomorrow and pulling by hand but I think i better be watching for a four wheeler for next year to pull this beast.  Anyone else have these new XT pro shelters?  Holding up okay?

I'm on my second season with mine.  I also made a similar mistake size wise.  I have a '14 Toyo Highlander and have to leave the back hatch open when transporting.  Luckily I live on the lake I fish so it's not a huge deal.  Buy the Hyfax runner kit to protect the tub especially if you're going to tow it with a machine.  I love everything about it but the drag on and off the ice.  It's a monster to drag if there's any snow at all.  I made a Smitty Sled for this season, but due to our poor winter here and very little snow so far, have not had an opportunity to use it yet.  We are not permitted to use any motorized assistance to tow or drag in PA.
Congrats on the purchase.  You will love it.

I put a bed extender on my tail gate to fit mine. And the smitty sled is a must if you have to pull it through the snow.
