Ya I just bought 3 inline  frailbill poles for the ice. Took then up to Ondiea and should have left them up thereno don't like then at all, don't like the way it feels when you reel, it was hard for me to keep the right pressure and reeling momentum to keep the fish on the line,i never lost so many fish in one day,i blame it on the reel. Going to go back to my old reels.

They work great for me.....but i don't use them in anything over say 10 ft...... I switch to a spinning reel for deeper water..

duke  I  bought one  last year   but to be  honest i'm not  very impressed   number  one   a  spinning reel is  cheaper and in most cases better made  2 a  inline  is  1 to  1  so  winding it  up   is a  pain 3 a  spinning  reel  is  more  comfortable .......

the  only time I  use  a  reel is  in  deeper  then 12 foot water  other then that I prefer a  spool and  just  lift fish  , deeper  water  I will use a  reel , for  me  I  did not like the  in line   but  you might love  it

I love my Wright McGill (Eagle Claw) so much, I bought another!
Awesome, I love to free spool a jig deep, fast.
No line curl that would show up on my Vex.
Almost always need to play with the drag, but no slow down or losing fish.
I highly recommend and if I find $ I'd buy another, maybe higher quality like people say the Black Betty is.

Fish ON.

you might love  it  duke ,I think it's all in personal preference , let us  know  what you think  ,I  did  like it  at first  as we  often do  but  as  I  used it  a bit  I  began  seeing ,what I considered bad characteristics......b ut  to others  they  wouldn't  mean as  much ,the  important thing is  what you think

Personally, I love my wright and McGill inline. I used it today next to a spinning reel and a realized that I could never go back to spinning tackle. First of all, line twist is very little if not nonexistent. If you have one of the inlines with a free spool feature (such as wright and McGill) it really helps dropping a micro jig when you guides are freezing at it's windy out. Just press the free spool and rotate the spool with the fingers of the hand that's holding the rod. No reaching out to pull out line or flipping over bails required. Personally, I love the inline design. Of course these are the more feature rich ones, not the little fly-reel types.I think you should try it. It has made my fishing so much more efficient and fun.

I bought 3 of the Eagle Claws a couple of years ago and took them off the poles after trying them out on 2 outings. Then I read a post with just the same question you posted and someone posted some improvement he made to the Eagle claws and advise on tuning. I followed his advise and 3 of the 4 rods I carry to the ice today are in lines. I will definitely upgrade to Black Bettys in the near future. They get a small tungsten down to the fish faster than a spinning reel will and no line twist at the end of the day.

I have a black Betty the thing is sick. You can drop the smallest of jigs to the depths in a hurry. And with the gear ratio  every crank you reel in 19" of line.

I have the EC reel ..new for me this season ...the free spool  needs to be tweaked every outing and during temperature changes ...but has cut down on lure spin ...so a thumbs up.

used the reel today, has its pros and cons,
pro-line goes downstraight and fast
con-took some practice to use reel(kinda like a bait caster)spent some time untangling line
all in all now that I know how to use it,i like it,
I did catch a nice smallmouth on it today!!

I bought on of the Frabil rods with the inline reel last year and never got a chance to try it out.  So yesterday I finally get out there and pull out this rod and reel combo.  Being very excited to use it finally.

My Joy didn't last long!  On the very first hook set I begin to reel in a decent sized perch and the spool comes complete off the spindle.  So I drop the rod and hand line it in. Got the fish top side of the ice and spend 10 minutes untangling line and putting things back together.  On the next hook set it happens again, and repeat for a third time.  Threw the darn thing in the sled and got out ol'faithful!

Like the rod so I will reconfigure it with a spinner reel and throw the inline in with my old "junk" fishing gear.
