Remove the hook from a Buckshot Rattle spoon, Jigging Rap or similar lure.

Tie that hook or another type of your choice onto the same place with a leader of fluorocarbon or mono-filament.

Leader material is different than casting line.

The finished dropper should have the hook below the lure two inches but, no more than three inches.

Happy tying and good luck.    ;)2

A good hook is a Gamakatsu Red Wide gap #2.

This is a good video about using droppers while perch fishing.

I've been destroying the perch on dropper rigs. Here's what you need:

Medium size Frosty spoon with treble hook removed; leave the O-ring attached to the Frosty soon.
Tie a piece of 4 or 6 lb mono onto the Frosty spoon o ring (where you removed the treble)
Tie the other end of the mono onto a Lindy Genz Worm (white glow and blue Genz worm has been slaying for me)
VERY IMPORTANT: the mono between the Frost and Genz Worm should be no longer than 2 1/2" long.....if longer, you will tangle when jigging.

When fishing, make sure the Genz Worm is hanging horizontally and tip it with 3 maggots.

The concept of a dropper rig is you have a larger profile spoon which is highly visible to fish from a longer distance away. The fish then comes in and sees the larger Frosty, but then zones in on the smaller Genz Worm which has a much smaller profile. Especially when the bite is slow and fish are finicky, this dropper rig can be deadly. I've ices more perch with this rig than any other jigs / dropper rigs I have used.

Try experimenting. Trial and error is how I ultimately narrowed in on this rig.

Good info. I have a question. Is it imperative to remove the hook from the top jig? Do the fish never hit this one? If I left the hook on, would it cause tangling issues with the drop?

Swedish pimple with a tube jig down below. It gets you to the bottom a lot quicker.
