I built my ice house last fall. There is no carpet and I don't like where I have the holes.
Now, I am putting in a new floor for different floor lay out. Going to carpet it, and would like a couple benches to sit on (instead of fold out chairs that get forgotten at home).  Here's what I've came up with. Normally it is just me and one friend. Occasionally a couple kids.  Will be doing all the work tomorrow (Saturday) so help a guy out quick!

NOTE: hole behind the door is for a camera, too far?

So these last 4, I had a local welding shop put a drop frame under it to the tune of about $2000. Much nicer then my temporary skids. I ran out of time last fall to do the frame myself. So I put these 4"x6" pine treated skids under it and used umhw to line the bottoms with. Could push it around by hand. I also used some left over rubber roof as a skirt around the bottom. Banked it up with snow and it worked well.
This will be much better this way though.

Well, we got a lot of work done this weekend. Painted the cupboards, built the 2 benches with hinged tops, new 3/4 floor, new carpet. And even hit the ice today for a few hours in it! No fish, but good time with the fam.

Nice job. Nice having the dart board for when the fishing is slow. I wish I lived close enough to a lake so I could have a permanent shanty.

Yea, the dart board gets used quite frequently. We all suck, actually lost a dart down the hole last year so need to get another set (or 2). We are going to build a bunk bed that folds down. It will be right above the bench and the floor cabinet by the door. Just be hinged from the wall, and a rope or chain from the one corner, and a 2x4 on the other side. Also need to paint the new benches, and hole overs white.

Could I do that in the winter now? If I leave the heat on over night a couple days?  Or will it just get tacky and gooey?

Well I got the benches painted white. Used a valspar paint and primer combo. **** was thick! Covered great, dried hard.
Also welded up a propane mount for the front. Ran out of gas to finish it, and mount it on the shack. Will have it done by the weekend.  Also going to pick up a 30" TV to mount in there.

I have the shack rented out. 23'rd to the 28"th. I will be at work anyways, so I might as well let someone get some use out of it.

Is there anything you guys thing I should add to the house to make it more enjoyable?
A dvd player to go with the TV and a radio.

For 2k, that welding shop should have splurged a bit and sprayed some paint on the bare metal. Very nice looking shack though. I might make me a drop down one too in the future.

I'm not upset, but I am damn sure not impressed with the job! The frame works well. The wheel hubs, rims and tires, and the winch he used pisses me off.
He welded on OLD USED car hubs. Off like the back of a Malibu. Non greaseable or serviceable. Both tires are well weather checked, and one keeps going low.
I asked for a 2way crank winch. Off like a grain auger. They crAnk both ways so it won't let loose. I got a regular one way winch. Like on boat trailers. And he made a new catch handle. It has slipped already and bit me in the arm. Black and blue from elbo to wrist.
Not happy with any of that, as I asked multiple times if i should supply them items new.
I was quoted $1400 for this job to be completed. When he called for me to come get it, he told me it would be $1950. All he said was it took me longer then I had thought. Bullcrap! I'm an auto tech. If I quote one labor time and it takes too long, I can't just bill more!

And yes, a little paint would have went a long ways!.

BTW, the frame functions great, and he did do a good job on that. Next summer I will put new hubs, wheels and tires, and a proper safe winch. Then paint.

One suggestion I might have for you regarding the winch. Most 12v atv winches have a power in and a power out. Might be a hassle lugging a battery, but might save some pain.

And yeah, price quoted should be just that.

I have a new electric winch I could use. My dad was standing there when the catch slipped off and beat my arm countless times. It went fast!!! So for Christmas he bought me a winch. But it may be a hassle always having to hook up a cable to the truck or atv. I thought about getting a battery box secured to the frame. But I fear it would be frozen in no time. So, I'll just pay attention to the catch and maybe bend it over a bit to make sure it catches well.

WOW you got shafted really good.  I'm glad it works great.  There's maybe $500 there for the frame plus labor.

I overpaid I agree. By about $500. If I was quoted 2k I would have done it my self, and done a few things differently/ better.  Although, Steel is not cheap. It's all 2x3 3/16, and 3" angle iron 1/4" thick. He had to make bushings for both the back pivots. Like I said, a bit upset at $600 over quote, but it's done, it's getting used. I just have to redo a few things this year. I thinking will be bringing it back to him with new serviceable spindles hubs and reminding him of his over budget issue and have him weld them on.

I agree.  With that kind of price tag You should have definitely gotten new parts.
