Cabela's Hub shelters
« on: Jan 18, 2016, 08:36 AM »
I saw one in the bargain cave last night 6 x 12 for just over 200. Anyone have any experience with using them over time, a few seasons or more?
May God bless and keep you always, may your wishes all come true.
May you always do for others and let others do for you.
May you build a ladder to the stars and climb on every rung,
May your hands always be busy, may your feet always be swift.
May you have a strong foundation when the winds of changes shift.
May your heart always be joyful, may your songs always be sung.
May you stay forever young.

Also saw a clam 1660 for a great price, reviews seem to favor Clam even over the Fatfish...

I have had one for 2 seasons. Same issues as the rest. Condensation dripping on you when it gets toasty. I had a pole break last year. Ordered a replacement through Clam(The Cabella's models are Clams with the Cabella's logo on them) and replaced it with relative ease.

For 200.00 its worth it. All in all, it is what it is. A place to get out the wind and the cold. The key is figuring out when to bring it! When I do bring it, I don't go in it. When I leave it at home, I wish I had it.
Can't catch em on your couch.

Your dilemma is the same as mine until I bought the Cabelas 360tc.  A little more than $200, but truly the only shelter I have seen that has the windows in the right place for tip up viewing.  @)

I saw some of them there last night and some were ripped or had faulty zippers. Before you decide on a shelter, please take a look at the Polar Bird Shelters. For the $$ and what you get you will be impressed. A four person insulated shack with a floor for $299.99 plus tax. I have an Eskimo now that I like (non insulated), but I'm anxious to use the Polar Bird. People that have bought them previously really like them. Yes, we sell them, but they are a really great product and I'm glad we have them for people. Just another option to consider and it won't break your bank.

Thanks TK, Windows are a deal killer then, I found a really good deal on the Clam Big foot XL4000T, and the windows are viewable seated but I just looked at the 360 Gamefisher suggested. nice window set up...basically same weight, same center height. Thanks for the info Wayne but it looks like the windows on those are small and up at the top.  I liked having all that space for 200 but I hate not seeing around easily...ill have to keep thinking ;D

I bought the clam 4000t. Got a really good deal on it at amazon and couldn't resist. Easy to set up and you can fit 4 big guys and a kitchen in there. Doesn't drip one bit and my coleman stove will heat it on most days. Kinda heavy if your walking but on a smitty sled it pulls pretty nice.  I did end up breaking two of the hub assemblys on it last year and havn't gotten around to replacing them at 65 a wack.

Thanks all for the input! I got a few PMs and a phone call. Proving once again that I have a serious problem, I pulled the trigger on a Clam 9102 Six Pack 1660Mag. I had some fun money kicking around on Amazon and couldn't resist. Free 2 day shipping and it was discounted plus my credits so just over 320.00. I will have it ready to go for vacation next week ;D

I have an Eskimo Fat fish and I like it a lot as well, good visibility sitting and seeing out the windows. Have not had a heater in it so I'm waiting to see about the condensation.

NO. The windows are useless.

I have found using bar stools I picked up at yard sales come in handy for this.

Got the Eskimo 949i and it is amazing so far. I too haven't had a heater in it because it already stays toasty having a few bodies in it. It's great getting out of the wind and I'm really loving the visibility on some lakes once you black out the windows. I am interested to see how the hub bars all hold up over time, but your can't beat the portability of a hub style shack. I got it online at Glenn's army navy with free shipping for 160 less than what cabelas is selling them at.

All day trips maybe one over night in Eustis. We'll see how the shelter works out. I'm going to give it hell for a week and if I'm not happy it's going back, it's a bit on the heavy side. I wanted the thermal but couldnt get it in time. I've watched a few vids so got the anchor tool and some extra anchors. At worst it may come in handy striper fishing ;D. Lets hook up next week Wayne, I'll be in your area for a few trips anyway.
