Man can't catch a break. Emailed willow slough and was told entire lake is frozen over. What do you think will happen if the forecast of low to mid 40's for Thursday Friday - with the possibility of rain - holds true? Might have to head up to Wisconsin this weekend. I believe it's free fishing weekend there.

It won't hurt much.  Last I checked the amount of rain was under .25 inch.  If there is snow on the ice it will absorb the rain.  It will all freeze back up Saturday and Sunday.

we are going to have this type of weather pattern the rest of the season...I think it was 2-3yrs ago we had this same type of pattern and still ended up with a boat load of ice. the weekly warm ups kept melting the fresh snow and a arctic blast would follow and freeze it all back up. made for some sketchy ice late season...over a foot of snow cone ice.

Don't know about the rest of you guys but it seems to me like the years we have little warm ups in mid ice season it helps the bite. Maybe the ups and downs with the weather will put the fish in a feeding frenzy

Bite or no bite, I don't care for 2.5 inches of ice that takes the stress of rain and warm temps followed by cold that makes another inch or two. Then the sun beats on it for a couple of days with mid 30's followed by a cold snap that makes another inch and then some more warm temps. You may be standing on 5 inches of ice but its strength is compromised.

Give me 3 inches of clear black ice any day over that!

But hey, I saw full sized pickup trucks pulling ice castles on slightly over 10 inches this past weekend so what do I know!

I hate the current weather patterns. Makes me nervous trekking out on ice that freezes/thaws/freezes/thaws/freezes. I will admit, having a flotation suit makes me a little more adventurous then what I would have been years ago when facing the ice conditions we have.

Ya I agree we need safe ice first, that's much more important. I've had to leave a hole before where I was catching alot of nice fish because it warmed up too much during mid day and the ice started looking bad.

We cant be too fussy this year as to the way it started out, but I can wait a couple days, not that much rain in forecast!!

LOL Ya It wasn't intentional fishinator I made this name up last year and thought i had an original but i did see you were on last year probably way before me as you have a lot more posts. I just realized this year how yours was spelled differently. I "reinvented" this name because my name is Nate. Hope we can share.

Forget about the rain, this wind is killing us right now.  We should be making ice but most lakes have white caps on them at the moment.

Weekend of the 22/23/24 looks good for me. I'm sure with some work I could find ice I could fish this weekend but I wouldn't enjoy it as much.

I checked a few channels this morning and they looked worse than they did yesterday.  We haven't been above freezing for 2 days but we sure aren't making much ice. The darn wind is keeping main bodies of the lakes open in some cases and the snow seems to be insulating what ice we had left after that rain.  Like was said previously give me 3" of solid new ice and I'm good to go, but this crap we got now must be respected or it could get ugly real quick!
