First ice today
« on: Jan 09, 2016, 05:34 PM »
Made it out to a local pond up in the becket area slow day but managed two decent pickerel and some nice perch. Hopefully the  ice holds up with the rain coming. Was a solid 4 inches. I got to say too that  I met a lot of people for neighboring states making the drive to the berks for ice, had some great conversation and let some people in on ice shanty and what not all in all great trip. Good to walk on water!
Drill um and fill um........

I made the trip to Becket today so I might have been one of those out of state guys.  Slow morning but still worth the drive!

Paul, did the bass bite at all today?
Being on ice is nice but the tug is the drug.

4 inches is plenty safe if the water isn't moving, swampa.  You really think all these experienced guys would be out there if it wasn't safe?!

4" of clear black ice can still be nerve wracking. you try to tell yourself you are safe but everytime you chisel hits or your auger breaks thru and you get a stress crack you can feel, you pucker up a little. the 4" i was on Sunday was very solid, couldn't hardly see the water rippling in the holes from walking
