I usually just use tip ups and minnows and do pretty good at time. Others use jigs and minnow head or spoons usually catch a few but most the time finding the fish is always a plus. Looks like some guys found some fish at poison creek bit there is only 3 inches of ice but with the colder temperatures it should be growing. Open water past five mile creek. Oh and find some shallow water to a little deeper i have done good around sand mesa or Wilson bay or Fremont bay has produced we fish for us perch walleye and if you want a minnow down about five to ten feet sometimes catches a few nice trout these days. Good luck and might see you guys out on the ice one of these days.

Typical Wyoming wind. I've seen it nice and calm sunny days and then I've been in 30+ mph winds just depends on the day.

In the winter time? it is almost always calm down there. a dozen times a year I leave casper and the wind is howling all the way to moneta, and its dead calm down there 9 times out of ten.
I'd rather do it on the ice

Yah Boysen is one of the calmer lakes in Wyoming in the winter.

I fish for perch and usually find them deep fro 35-65 ft. Kastys, minnows work well. But whenever we're out deep like that its great to deadstick a typical trout jig with a piece of worm about 10 ft down. The big trouts will just crush it.

One year we had great success on walleyes between Poison and Fremont in about 5 feet of water. Haven't been able to duplicate it recently. I remember it was really weedy. Might be worth a shot.

FIRST always respect others and give them space.  OK if you do not have a finder,  look for old holes and start there.  You will have to drill lots of holes and use a heavy weight and a slip bobber stop.  Drill the hole and drop the weight and move the bobber stop to match the water depth, and move from hole to hole and look for depth changes.  Just like fishing from the boat the fish will be relating to something on the bottom.  It can be very minor or extreme but that's were they live.  It will be very hard to fish suspended fish without the finder so you will want to concentrate the shallower fish.

Last year was the first time I used electronics on the ice. Not real successful finding fish with my vex but once found made a difference if I stayed or looked further. Before electronics my trick was not only lookin for old holes, but look for the the ones with blood around 'em. Shoot, if somebody else found fish there you just might have a chance at it too! Good luck and stay safe.

Just go for the hut party. Show up the day before the feast, set tip ups out, forget about em, and in 2 days pick em up and go home :) that's how I fish boysen!

I start shallow and drill towards deep water till I find the fish . Then concentrate there.

I found my hotest hole in BIG BEND on  the gorge by wondering around looking for blood at a hole. I later learned from faithful fishermen that I was in the hot spot.   I have it GPSed for four years and it always produces.

I'm new to the site and have always fished the pathfinder area.  I am looking to expand my area and try Boysen.  I was curious if Boysen, being a bigger lake with more access points, gets as packed with people as pathfinder does at times?
