Strawberry Kisses vs. The Slush Monster
« on: Feb 27, 2016, 11:37 PM »
My little Cupcake and I had a blast today at the GTG, thanks again to all the awesome people that worked so hard to put it together.  Although the fishing was slow, the food was great and the company even better.  I appreciated the rides to and from (thanks muskyon46 and happyheber/your compadre whose name eludes me--sorry!)

My 3 year old got to reel in 2 fish, a ~14" cutty courtesy of happyheber (thanks again!) and a nice 19" cutty that decided to smash my pink gizzy bug as I tried to reel up to pack everything away for the day.  Shortly after we showed up (a bit late, as everyone knows a princess needs her beauty sleep) she decided to test the water temp with her leg.  We were able to quickly get her set up in my little tent, (I forgot your handle...but you lent us your big Mr. Heater which was a true life saver!) and got her changed, dry, and warm in short order.  She toughed it out until we pulled the plug just before 2pm.  She loves her new fishing pole she won, and I kid you not it is firmly tucked under her arm as she is sleeping in her princess bed as I type this right now.

The slush was formidable on the ride back, but we managed to make it work!  Thanks again guys, you all rock!

It seemed like the most fish were biting on white jig heads with pink gizzies tipped with chub meat (thanks for the chub! again, my memory on whose handle went with which individual is a bit hazy, I might need to get this checked out...)

Glad she got dried out quick with the heater. Little kids are fun to watch they always do some crazy things on the ice. I will let you know about fishlake on the 12th.

The wife and I (Ice Permitting) are planning a trip up to Strawberry the 11,12,& 13th of March and will be staying at the Strawberry lodge for a couple nights, if in the area stop and say hi, may see you out on the ice, will have a black Polaris and an Eskimo red fat fish I think we will be staying in that area maybe as far out as Renegade. I've never fished there before so it will be new to us.

Good to know!  I'm planning on hitting Fishlake on the 12th, so I probably won't be able to convince my wife to let me out on that friday or sunday also.

Moving to Alaska in May? You lucky bugger, we have just visited but love it up there. I have a retired A.F. buddy that lives in North Pole probably still running his winter trap lines not sure when that season ends for him. Wishing you all the best up there.

The wife and I spent the weekend fishing at Strawberry. The weather was beautiful and the ice was great for travel. We fished Friday afternoon and Saturday staying at the lodge and departed with our snowmobile from the boat ramp each day. No slush monster for us either day. The fishing was slow for us with only a half dozen cuts caught the first afternoon and 7 cuts and two rainbow caught the 2nd day. We fished south side of rainbow point both days varing from 10 to 20 FOW. The cutts ran from 18 to 21 inches for us and the bows were maybe a foot. Fun for both of us, it was nice to have a fish that makes your reel sing when you hook the larger cutts. This will probably be our last trip out on the ice this year. Hope you all have a great soft water season and nice meeting and talking to some of you at the GTG. Gale, the pole holder worked just great and I really enjoyed using it, thanks again
