What is it for a wheeler? And I don't believe you get a title with atvs. I would certainly check it out thoroughly before you sign anything.  Anyone who wants to trade that quickly is usually trying to hide something, in my opinion.  Crawl under it, look for leaks, look for cracks, check fluid levels, start it up and listen for knocks, check air filters and belt if it had one and is easily accessible.  Just check as much as you can, because once you sign papers, anything wrong is your problem.

if he doesn't have a title, it could possibly have a lien against it or something being an '07

I've never swapped titles on a toy. If there was snow on the ground I could see his excitement,  but seems a little weird.

As stated, no titles for sleds/ATV's. Could be he just really doesn't use the wheeler and wants a sled.  ATV's are generally easy to spot if they've been beaten.  Cracked plastic and bent racks are the first thing to look for.  Check/smell the motor oil also.

In Maine you do not need a title when purchasing an atv.  A copy of the bill of sale
is sufficient to please the registers.  If the atv runs good and you think you would
be happy, then by all means do it.  You will be able to use the atv far more than
you would the snowmobile, and like it more.  A title is nice but not necessary..
Good fishing.

Be careful on older brutes.  They had cooling issues from 05-2010 I believe. Nothing an oversized radiator fan and a front rack mount for radiator can't solve.  And secondly, I wouldn't value that close to $4500. I just bought a 2015 brute 750 for $8000 new. They are mean machines, look for anything aftermarket on it, pipe, huge tires, and such.  A lot of brute owners beat their machines.  A great motor though, with tons of low end power, which is good for towing.

And mine will pop up in a wheelie at 25mph haha

Ask him for the VIN prior to the meet and have your local police check if it's reported. If he doesn't give you the VIN don't touch it.

Vin should be on frame, easy to see if you look. Up front near or it may be on the very back. Call a dealer and they will tell you.
Is it ice time yet???

Yes, VIN should be easy to see on the frame.  My Honda you can see from the front wheel well.

In my own opinion I would stay away from Polaris and Kawasaki atv's . Reliability wise I lean towards can am, Yamaha and Honda. Can am can be a little on the pricey side but my experience of owning many. Honda is the way to go. I have also done many deals like you speak of and as long as there is no lein on the 4wheeler and the guy your getting it from had it registered prior I myself would not be scared of trading.

Be careful. A lot of scamming going on with ATV's and Snow machines. Any add that says ASAP should ring a bell. I too would be very careful.
Just add water.

Ive had Honda's all my life, rode with many others who have had others. Most of us have Can am  or Honda now. They hold their value pretty well also, parts are easy to find.  and they float..Ya don't really need big foot kits if ya get a winch. been there done that. i wouldn't get anything smaller than a 400. If it has been registered that solves a few questions about theft. Ask how old the primary driver was..  Us old guys go slow. Slow is cheaper..

Any ATV from any of the major motorcycle or snowmobile companies is going to be reliable with reasonable care. The only other brand I would consider is Kymco. I would limit my choices to brands with local dealers. While Honda and Suzuki make fine machines I wouldn't buy either because the nearest dealer is about 80 miles from home. On the other hand Polaris, Kymco, Can-Am, Arctic Cat and Yamaha have dealers in my home town. Yamaha gets extra convenience points from me because the dealer is in easy walking distance and has trail access from my house. I can drive it in for service and walk home in about the same time as loading it on a trailer and driving my truck. Keep dealer location in mind when choosing anything that will need regular service.
