Heat treating micro plastics?
« on: Oct 12, 2015, 07:01 PM »
I was watching a video in anticipation of ice season, and heard this rep say that his pros heat treat their micro plastics to ensure every one is straight and true - once aligning the baits, they nuke 'em for 5 to 10 seconds in the microwave, or dip them in hot water.

It makes sense, I just had never heard this tip before.

I've been frustrated with digging out last years stuff only to find it curly cued or bent at odd angles from being folded and put away for eight months plus.

I've never done this with ice plastics, but you really spiked my interest. I do this with Open Water 3 to 5" swim baits. I get water boiling and then dip the bottom (tail) half of the bait in the water for about 10 seconds. It really softens the bait up, and makes the tail kick much better. I've also had the same issue you mention, where swimbait tails get bent over, and this boiling will straighten them right back out.

I think at a minimum, it would make the plastics softer. They probably won't last as long, but they should have much more movement with the slightest of actions. Thanks for sharing this, I look forward to what others have done.
