Was out there Sunday with a group. Had about 10 inches of ice. The vite was very slow.  Not sure what you are fishing for. But we were fishing for pike. That lake has been taking a pounding over the past few years. Its not like it used to be.

The main ice will be fine. It's getting on to it that could e the problem. I remember a few years ago we had a warm up like this. My buddy was ten feet from me. I went in by shore getting off at the end of the day. He did not. So be careful. I only went in to my waist. It drops off fairly quickly there.

I heard from a guy at wiggly worm Saturday afternoon, someone caught a 46 inch pike in Collins! It was released too! Anyone hear this too? I'd love to see a picture of it.

I caught a 4 pound bass this weekend and it had a fairly fresh bite from a pike that went from its back to belly so there is or was at least one 40 plus inch pike in there this year. Ice is going fast on Collins as it always does.

wow, really? I wouldnt think one is that big in there...and if there is, chances are thats a land locked one from the flood.

was it just a customer or was it Gary? We all know how fish story's go! Everyone someone repeat's it, the fish usually grows! LOL

however someone did catch a 48"er this winter in another local lake...a local. Kept it hush. Took a pic, and back it went.

There are definitely some big ones in there  ;)     a 52 inch fish was netted or shocked or whatever a few years ago.

With that flood and the entire area under 10 feet of water there could be ANYTHING that was swimming in the Mohawk in Collins now. That includes monster pike, tigers and waldos.

I don't think the floodwaters made it across the road.  Jumping Jacks had some problems, but there's a lot of elevation between there and Collins Lake.

It sure did  ....  my adult baseball league plays on Bob Moore and the ball field was under 10 feet of water.

Oh, it made it alright, haha.   Parks and Rec guys were picking up dead carp from the outfield fences of the softball fields  ;D

The park is in the background beyond the trees:

The lake was massive for two weeks.

The Daily Gazette had an aerial image of the river and lake all linked together at flood stage (instead of its current oxbow), but I can't seem to find it online.  It was NUTSO.

Here is a better look at that 2011 craziness.  I think that's the Collins Lake island visible in the lower-left center?

Craziness.

OK, I stand corrected.  But here's a little known fact about Collins Lake.  Gadabout Gaddis, who used to be local, got his start bass fishing in Collins Lake.  An old timer named Al Danzig who lived near me in Schenectady told me how he and Gadabout used to go there.

And that's apparently where all the water chesnuts came from.  Some local preacher decided they would look pretty so he planted them in Collins Lake.

Yes that is Collins lake in the lower left corner. It was like that for a couple weeks. I am sure some gators got in there, but a 52"er? I think that's a fish story that grew with the tale. 52" could be a new state record fish. Not saying it can't happen, but it's doubtful a fish of that size can still live in that lake, without being caught or dieing.
