Tripp Lake, Poland ME
« on: Feb 12, 2015, 02:14 PM »
I will be fishing Tripp Lake in Poland ME this weekend if anyone has any advise or past experience with it. I have never been and wouldn't ordinarily choose that lake to make a trip to but the family and friends are renting a cabin there for the long weekend so the opportunity has presented itself. Additionally if by chance anyone else is fishing there this weekend please let me know and come say hello. Always trying to meet new people interested in fishing through this site.
Cheers,

Pete

Make sure put some traps along shoreline in shallows for brown trout. Three or five feet of water.

Probably can't get byond the shoreline unless you have a machine. But you will only be a few miles from the casino. You can weather the lousy conditions there. I don't know about 3 feet of depth for Browns but on that lake it is probably just as good as any.

Out in deeper water there are a lot of perch- white and yellow, but you have to find them.  There are pickerel just under the ice sometimes and also in shallower.  There are a lot of bass, but can be hit and miss.  I have caught browns in 20-30fow just under the ice, suspended and on the bottom.  They also stock it with a few brood stock salmon every year.  Few and far between, but never hurts to have a trap or two set just under the ice.  The place is chock full of alewife and I have found small shiners to work best.  Good luck and have fun in the snow!

Check the stocking report as far back as you can & you'll find that the Lake has been stocked heavy with browns for many years. it has a lot of pressure in the winter, yet the catch rate is low. The main reason is the amount of alewives in there. I live two miles away & in years past, that was my favorite spot in the Spring trolling streamers.

The past two years I nearly wore out my arm with no luck. The feed is heavy, which makes for a slow day. I'm sure there are still some nice browns in there, a shanty member can attest to that.
We used to launch our 14' boats at the beach off rt.#11, then they placed the rocks there. Now you have that terrible launch off Mequire Hill Rd. No good parking and a neck breaker backing in that narrow road.
The bass & perch fishing is good, if you're in the right place at the right time. Even the crappie have found their way there. ::)
Where is the camp you referred to?

As Sawyerjosh said, shiners are your best bet.     Good Luck!

A little patience and the fish are there................. ..lucky that boat launch doesn't have a toll booth on it the back up distance. Still better than the one on Sabbathday ;however my truck widened that one last year......... ;)
