Night fishing

What's the big deal here in Maine about night fishing and why are soo many lakes and ponds resticted to only day fishing till sunset?  Does anyone know of any lakes or ponds that are open to all night fishing?

i inquired with the dept last year on this issue and was told basically that the laws have been on the books for many years and there is really no reason why more places couldnt be opened but someone will have to make it happen.
